Positive: The penthouse upgrade was greatly appreciated and offered spectacular views of Mount Kenya. The room, bathroom, and living area were exceptionally spacious, the fireplace experience was excellent, and the property was clean and comfortable throughout. The staff were outstanding, particularly Chef Peter, who looked after me very well and prepared excellent meals.

Negative: Breakfast as part of the half-board package lacked variety, as it was essentially the same English breakfast each morning. The property is also some distance from the main town, and hotel-arranged taxis and tours were considerably more expensive than local alternatives.

Summary: A peaceful and comfortable stay with stunning Mount Kenya views, excellent staff, and spacious penthouse accommodation.

Positive: It was a positive experience by European standards. Staff is friendly almost across Kenya, but the staff in Idan Barn was actually professional. I felt welcome. Rooms were perfectly clean and spacious. I didn't need to look for a switch for hot water - it came automatically. And the staff was able to follow my instructions to cook a meal before my arrival. Upon arrival, I already started eating. When my ride to the train station let me down on early morning, the staff immediately organised a driver for me, that came in 15 min. Such experience is a standard in Northern Europe, but in Sub-Saharan Africa - it's simply exceptional! If I ever visit Mt Kenya region again - I know where to stay. Thank you!

Positive: The suite is situated in a beautiful location, with an amazing view of Mt. Kenya. The food is very good (although only a few vegetarian options). The room was very clean, but not very big (for 2 people). The staff was very kind and helpful.

Negative: The restaurant could offer some more vegetarian food options. The accommodation does not have a swimming pool (yet), which could be a nice addition.

Positive: This is a brand-new hotel and it shows in every detail: stylish new furniture, well-equipped rooms, everything feels fresh and thoughtfully designed. Breakfast deserves a special mention — great choice and excellent quality. I went for eggs Benedict with avocado and bacon… honestly, delicious. Some rooms (and the breakfast café) offer a beautiful view of Mount Kenya, which makes mornings extra special. But the real highlight is the service. Truly outstanding - better than in many European hotels. We received the location in advance, were welcomed and guided on arrival, served a proper and tasty dinner even though we arrived very late, and in the morning the team was flexible and supportive with our situation - all with genuine friendliness and smiles. They even washed our car, which was such a lovely surprise.

Negative: One small thing to note: the hotel has very good acoustics, meaning you can hear neighbours quite clearly. Because of that, we’d strongly recommend choosing a room with a balcony. it adds both comfort and privacy. Overall, we were genuinely impressed and would happily return
