Staying at Graig Ddu is a profound off-grid experience. It is perfect for retreating for a few days or dedicating yourself exclusively to that book you’ve always wanted to start or that project you need to finish.
This idyllic cottage is hidden away, immersed in timeless tranquillity in the heart of the Black Mountains, near Abergavenny, in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Lying in acres of forest with no neighbours, you can sit out on the terrace in the garden and soak up your surroundings and listen to the birds, or walk out of the back door and onto the dome of the Black Mountains for connecting with inspiration. (Suggested walks are provided)

2 well-behaved dogs are welcome. Strictly downstairs only please, and paws off the furniture - £20 each. (Please let me know when you request a booking whether you will be bringing a dog to two).

Graig Ddu is the perfect place to unplug and get offline for a few precious days. There is no mobile reception here, but there is a landline in the kitchen should you need it.

Graig Ddu is the perfect place to unplug and remove yourself from mundane distractions. There is no mobile reception here, and to reinforce the retreat atmosphere, we have removed all temptation and made Graig Ddu WiFi and TV free too. The only tweets you will hear are from the birds!

THE AREA
There are 2 traditional pubs within 1 mile, in the small hamlet of Llanthony. Both offer hearty pub grub and are easily walkable for the keen and energetic. One is in the crypt of the ruins of the magnificent Llanthony Abbey - well worth a visit in its own right. There is a footpath to the village across the fields just down the forest track from the cottage.
The Black Mountains lie on the Eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and are far less visited and equally renowned for their beauty.
If you are looking to escape from 21st Century life for more than an hour or two, this cottage is ideal.

Summary: Perfect for exploring historic sites, endless walking routes to each and everyones capabilities, perfect for reactive dogs as you have many options of not having to interact with others. The host was within telephone reach for advise and we were delighted on arrival to find Wilma had bought us a bottle of wine ( vegan sought especially for us) it was warm, cosy, full of guide books and also ones in different categories, games and after a long walk oiks to soak within hot bath. And what l especially found important was her environmental approach to living within the cottage .

Summary: I booked the cottage at very short notice and Wilma was so helpful in making sure everything was ready when I arrived. It is pretty, cosy and in a lovely secluded setting - despite the weather being very cold, the log burner worked like a dream and the bedroom was always warm. I particularly appreciated the crisp white cotton bedding and the fluffy duvet and pillows - much nicer than more expensive places I have stayed recently. The stars were amazing and listening to the wind roaring up through the trees was very special. I hope to go back when the weather is warmer so that I can spend time in the lovely garden. This was a solo visit but I felt perfectly safe and comfortable - I would be happy to go back on my own again but I know my husband would love it too.
