4 Bedroom House in Cullowhee

Mountain lake getaway just minutes from downtown Cashiers, that will offer you and your family/friends a true feeling of leaving it all behind! Located on Buck Knob Island in the middle of Lake Glenville, this property offers a sense of exclusivity and privacy. With just a short 5 minute boat ride from the landing, the island has no cars and only 9 other homes, which allows one the sense of disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Right from our private dock you can enjoy boating to one of the 4 waterfalls on the lake, tubing, skiing, fishing, and canoeing. Should you decide to venture shoreside, there are trips to nearby Cashiers (less than 10 minutes) and Highlands (less than 30 minutes), hiking, shopping, dining, and so much more.
Perfect for a small family reunion or gathering of close friends, this 4 bedroom, 4 bath home has all of the amenities necessary to make your stay carefree and relaxing. You can enjoy a day on the lake followed by evenings unwinding at one of the two large fireplaces. The home is fully outfitted with a beautiful chef's kitchen, high end appliances and an open floor plan that makes entertaining a breeze! Designed to allow the outdoors in, one can easily move from the comfort of the indoors to the large, spacious deck outside that has a table for dining and plenty of room to gather around the fireplace.
There are two master suites - one on the main level and another on the lake level. Both have plenty of space, beautiful views of the lake and mountains beyond, and sliding doors with access to the deck. The second floor has two bunk rooms with a full bathroom in each. One bunk room has a built in twin bunk bed and a king size bed. The other room has a set of twin bunk beds, a built in twin bunk and a single twin bed. The lake (lower) lever has a large game room with a shuffleboard table, TV and bar area for entertaining.
PLEASE NOTE:
- The terrain on the island and to and from our dock is not even or level. Only those who are steady on their feet and able to climb stairs unassisted should rent this property. There are no handrails available to use out doors on the stone step path up to the house from the dock. Please keep this in mind when considering our home.
- Feel free to message owner to inquire about blocked dates
- Renters will be met at the landing by the home's caretaker who will provide transportation to the island at the start of the rental and transportation back to the landing at the conclusion. The caretaker will be available to renters should an issue or question arise. Arrival and departure times will need to be arranged with the caretaker.
- All renters will need to provide their own boat - our caretaker frequently has pontoons for rent, you can inquire at Signal Ridge Marina, Lakeshore Marina or contact owner directly for additional suggestions
- Renters should be comfortable operating and docking a boat as this is the only means to and from the island during your stay
- NO pets allowed (this is an island-wide rule for all renters and is monitored!)
- NO smoking allowed
- Pool table has been replaced with a shuffleboard table

Summary: Our family of five had an amazing week tubing, water skiing, paddle boarding, lounging on the dock, as well as enjoying all the wonderful amenities this house offers including watching movies, playing games, grilling, and roasting marshmallows. There is plenty of space to be alone when quiet time is needed. Just as described, this house has all the comforts of home and more. Many thoughtful extras were available like cooking spices, a wonderfully stocked kitchen, common pantry items, toiletries, sunscreen, and laundry/cleaning supplies. If we ever had a question or needed something, their attentive caretaker, Danny, was just a phone call away. He made living on an island easy! When it came time to leave, we soaked up the last of the beautiful views and cool weather and talked about how much fun we will have when we return next summer! Life is short…we are so thankful for these memories of a lifetime on Buck Knob Island!

Summary: This was the best rental house we've ever had the pleasure of staying at. It felt like someone's regular home and not a rental. The house is impeccably decorated and stocked. I love to cook and usually travel with certain items that I want to cook with but don't find in a rental, but this house had everything....even kosher salt! I wasn't sure if staying on the island was going to be a pain, but it was the exact opposite. Getting off the island was a 30 second boat ride. And then getting into town was super easy from there. In fact, we usually stay at a house at the end of Fenley Forest Road on the west side of the lake and getting into town from this house on the island was faster than from our normal rental. Lastly, the house comes with Danny. Everyone should have a Danny in their life. Danny was so helpful and responsive no matter the time of day or night. 5 stars all the way around on this house!

Summary: This is the best lake house we've ever rented. Getting to and from the island (running back for missed groceries :) ) requires a bit more planning, but staying on an island made it a unique experience. House is beautiful and well setup. And the owner and property caretaker were incredibly nice and accommodating for anything we needed.

Summary: This is a beautiful well stocked home in a really cool location. The owner was very responsive and the caretaker Danny was super helpful and kind. He is a definitely a 10 out of 10. The house was well stocked and clean, which is pretty important considering its on an island….which is super fun! However, I highly recommend bringing a cooler for the first day or so. Getting to the location is easy. Danny, carried our bags from the back of our car to the front door, literally. All we had to was enjoy the boat ride.

Summary: The property was clean, spacious, and decorated beautifully; very cozy and comfortable. The house was very well stocked and the owners generously suggested we use what was available but please let them know if the item would have to be replaced. The access to the lake was so easy. I watched my grandchildren jump off the dock into the clean , refreshing lake over and over. Staying on the island necessitated that we plan trips carefully but we rented two boats so we could come and go easily. A beautiful spot, a lovely home and wonderful hospitality !
