La Plaine is a house that sleeps 8 people + cot. The house is situated at the top of a small hill, highest point of the village, with stunning views over surrounding valleys, The place is very quiet with closest neighbour at 300 m. Facility includes a heated pool (12x5m) built in 2019 with wooden deck. The house (renovated in 2020) has 4 bedrooms , one bathroom and 2 toilets, one large living room, a kitchen and a TV room. There is plenty of place for kids to run around in a safe environment and also WiFi for those who need to stay connected. La Plaine is ideally situated in one of the best place in France for sightseeing (Sarlat, Domme, Lascaux, Rocamadour), gastronomy (truffle, Foie-Gras, duck Confit) and nature activities (canoeing, walking, cycling), after a long day you can just relax by the pool and play petanque with your friends.
More about La Plaine: The house was built 40 years ago by my grand-father. It is a perigourdine style house. The big terrace facing south is the perfect spot to enjoy your breakfast and dinner by the pool. For the rest of the day you can stay under the old oak tree in front of the house or do some farniente by the swimming pool. The heated swimming pool and the wood deck were built in 2019, there is a remote controlled pool cover and a fence for safety.
Altogether the house can sleep 8 people in 4 bedrooms. Travel cots are available upon request. We also have one proper BBQ.
Convenience: The village of Simeyrols is pretty small, so you will have to drive to Carlux/Saint Julien (5 km) or Salignac (9 km) to find grocery stores, bakery, butchery, gas station, ATM, postal services, pharmacy, family doctors, etc. Sarlat and Souillac are 13 km away where you can find supermarkets, banks, hospitals, cinemas, etc.
La Plaine is at the crossroad of three departments offering stunning touristic spots. The Dordogne (24) with over 1,000 castles, among them Château de Beynac where Richard Lion's Heart spent some time or Château de Castelnaud with its medieval weapons museum (kids love it!) and wonderful medieval cities like Sarlat, Domme, La Roque Gageac, Montpazier and prehistoric caves like Lascaux or Rouffignac. The Lot (46) with places like Rocamadour, Lacave and Padirac cave. The Correze (19) with Collonges La Rouge and Turenne. La Plaine is 6 km away from the Dordogne River where you can rent a canoe and paddle along this wonderful river. There plenty of theme park for children and even a zoo in Calviac (10km).

Summary: We had a wonderful 10-day stay in Simeyrols. We are a family of five with three boys aged 7 to 12. The house worked really well for us. The location is ideal, in the hills north of / between Sarlat and Souillac - a really quiet spot, but close enough to local villages and the main towns in the region. Large grounds for our boys to run around and play in. The swimming pool was perfect - a really good size, with a good, solid decked area around it. The house itself is a good size; the kitchen is well designed and well equipped. Thank you, Thibault!

Summary: Hi Thibault we had a wonderful time during our stay. lovely location very quiet (until we arrived lol) not overlooked very spacious and the modified pool was a god send with the extreme weather conditions we occurred on our time spent at the property 42 degrees (ouch) Great value for money. if we where to be a little picky the oven in the main house could be mended/updated and air-con would be much appreciated (a big ask but maybe a future update). overall thank you very much for letting us share your property and if we can achieve the numbers to return next year there would be no anticipation, thanks again. Summary: This was my first visit to France outside of Paris and what a wonderful time we have had in the Dordogne. We drove from Calais to the house, whilst the journey from England was long, it was straightforward. Thibault and family were very kind and hospitable, very quick to respond to emails and happy to help in anyway. The house has spectacular views and is in a peaceful location. It was built and decorated in the 70s and remains in its original state. The swimming pool is large and whilst there was a problem on our arrival with the pool (algae) this was through no fault of the owners but with the previous visitors who had not followed the instructions on maintaining the pool. This was rectified as quickly as possible and we have been informed by Thibault that he is planning to replace the pool and update the house in some places. The house is perfectly situated to visit Sarlat and the surrounding areas and I would highly recommend getting “out and about”. I have fallen in love with France and thank the French residents for being patient with a non French speaking Brit! We will definitely be visiting again.

Summary: This property was exactly as described, i'd call it traditional rather than old fashioned The grounds are extensive and the pool was perfectly positioned and sized. I do think the pool man visiting every other day a tad excessive and the chemicals did turn blonde hair green, swimming garments had a green tinge as did my nails! The pool air circulation was only on for two of the fourteen days we were there - rentals i've had in the past has a pool person once a week and the air pumps were on all the time. That said, we had fun fun fun and the green tinges have gone! The view from the house is stunning and the house sits proudly above the small hamlet/village but the main road was a busy road though no noise polution problems! The kitchen was very well stocked, so much so, there was no space left for our dry food items but we shuffled things around. Huge fridge with freezer space. Gas hob, we couldn't get oven to work but there was another cooker in the small house - it worked for us and was fine, wasn't worth bothering the owner. Laundry room which was great. If, like us, you want to stay put and just enjoy sun, pool, games, relaxation, it was perfect. Ample sun loungers. Watered the plants/shrubs for the family, save them visiting. Least we could do.The owner and his family were on hand should we have needed, we did on one occasion and all was well. Communication from booking and currently is fabulous, Thibault is very patient and welcoming. 13km to the nearest supermarket but it is open till 12 noon on Sundays which is handy to know. All in all we had a great holiday, lots of fun and enjoyed our time there. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a large house (with small house as a bonus, sleeps up to four in there). I would recommend the owner purchase more fans - there was only one in the house and some nights were stiflingly hot for everyone no matter which room you slept in, even if the shutters were shut all day. Definitely needs more electric fans for the hot months. Great house, great pool, great location, delightful family owners. Not enough room on here to say everthing but would recommend to anyone who has a large family group and wants a large pool (steps to pool get VERY hot in the sun, have a refillable bottle on hand to cool rails with water)! Loved my holiday here, thank you Thibault!

Summary: We booked the house and small house at Simeyrols for a 3-generation get together: 7 adults and 3 children, for the last week in July. It was even better than we had hoped: so much land around the house, wonderful views and no close neighbours. The pool was ideal, as were the games provided, like table tennis and jeu de boules and French scrabble. Space enough to retreat and sit under a tree with a book, or for the children to play free. The house was comfortable and had a lived-in feel to it. We were extremely lucky with the weather, which meant we were out of doors most of the time. Slight drawback was that there isn't a baker's or a café in Simeyrols village which is an easy walk, so one has to drive to the nearest town for bread etc, We didn't actually get to meet Thibault, but had friendly and lively contact with him via email and sms. Would certainly recommend it to people looking for a quiet base in the Dordogne.

Summary: We’ve really appreciated this rental house for one week of vacation with our family. The small house next to the big one allowed our parents having their own space, which is a real advantage as we were 13! The inside of the house is functional with big rooms allowing us to add some small beds for our babies. The outside is very pleasant with a big sunny exposed terrace and a big pool well protected. The view from the house is also pleasant and quiet. Localisation of this house is very well situated to allow visiting the region. If we have something to complain about it could only be about the really old style of the inside of the house (decoration, beds, households appliance etc.) We do recommend this rental to every family willing having some rest and taking benefits of the various touristic walks that the region is offering.
