Positive: Kikala Waterfall Lodge is a quiet place, which makes it a good choice if you’re looking to get away and relax. The surroundings are peaceful and calm. The staff were kind and helpful throughout the stay. The room and facilities were clean.
Negative: If you’re a light sleeper, the frogs at night can be quite loud and might disturb your sleep. Also, the bathroom is not inside the cabin but in a shared building, which wasn’t clearly mentioned on the Booking listing.

Positive: The little cottages are clean and comfortable. The ladder and access to the loft bed is a bit awkward but the beds are wonderful. Two shared bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen are up the hill in a separate building. At a 2000 ft. elevation, the mountain breeze cools in the summer and could be quite cold in the winter. Itʻs 4 miles outside of Hilo on a country road. A lovely experience.

Positive: Beautiful setting, unique accommodation. We loved our stay here. The individual lodge was comfortable for a party of 3. Our host was friendly went out of her way to show us around and even tell us about the plants and the animals. Disappointed that we could not stay longer. This location is off the tourist path, which makes it even better.

Positive: The cabins are very cosy. The surrouding is wonderful, however there are many frogs calling during the night. Host was very friendly. Kitchen in the main building is well equipped.
Negative: Restrooms are centrally located in the main building, not in the cabins. This is not a bad thing, but it was not clearly visible in the booking process on booking.com.

Positive: The environment! Even though it was very close from the Hilo central, we had a beautiful waterfall and river outside of our lodge. The host was really nice and saw us off the next morning.
Negative: The roads can be narrow on the way to the lodge so the early check in before getting dark would be recommended if you have never been before.

Positive: The setting of the lodge was fantastic. It sits about 75 yards away from the waterfall and pond.
Negative: No AC so had to sleep with windows open. That would be fine because the air was cool. But, the coqui frogs were loud and constant. all night.
Summary: The stay was fine. Wish the billing was more open and honest. Add on costs almost doubles the cost

Positive: This was such a cool place to stay! It's a good mix of rustic and comfortable. The hosts are very communicative, and toured us around the property and were very attentive to what guests might need during their stay. They let us use the laundry, and chatted about the area and its attractions. We stayed in one of the little cabins, which had a very comfortable bed and bedding, hooks for clothes, its own porch, and a side table with a lamp and a place to charge our phones. It overlooks a little waterfall, and up the hill around the corner is the bigger waterfall where you can swim, and it is stunning! We were able to shower and prepare food in the lodge kitchen, which was so convenient. It's 15 minutes' drive from Hilo, and is a beautiful place to stay comfortably in a gorgeous natural area.
Negative: We had no complaints! I'd say if you're skittish of spiders you should know they're busy building their webs on the paths (not in the cabins, though, which are beautifully cleaned and maintained) and that it is more of an outdoorsy stay. It's exactly what we were looking for! We were a little confused about where to park but our host said he'd be putting up additional signage so you won't need to worry about that.
