Positive: The house is beautiful and our room was lovely. The staff were very professional, but also very friendly. The food was exceptional - as were the staff in the restaurant.

Negative: This is obviously a hotel run by a restaurateur, so the emphasis is on the food, with a few small things missing from the room.

Summary: A beautiful house in a beautiful setting, with wonderful food and lovely staff.

Positive: The hotel is in very beautiful grounds in a rural area a few miles from Limoges and the main north/south autoroute if travelling through France North/South by car as we were, with woods and a lake, so nice for a walk. The hotel has a Michelin restaurant which is the primary reason we stayed and this was really superb. The hotel room was a bit disappointing as it was an attic room and if/when we stay again we would likely book a higher grade room. the staff were very welcoming and friendly. good parking close to reception.

Negative: The room we had was a little disappointing as small and in an attic type space. if/when we stay again we would select a higher grade room.

Summary: Mid France stopover, and to take a superb dinner in the hotel Michelin restaurant

Positive: Divine setting inviting the guest to enjoy long walks around the property in the heart of nature to the sound of babbling brooks with glimpses of the occasional deer grazing peacefully. The lovely owner and her helpful, non-intrusive staff add a sense of the familial here which made us feel welcome and at home. The gastronomic restaurant receives a star from the Michelin Guide (ref. https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/nouvelle-aquitaine/nieul_1470595/restaurant/chapelle-saint-martin). Sadly, for the two nights at the beginning of the week that we stayed here, the restaurant was not open. However, the dinner menu in the garden restaurant was sufficiently excellent enough to satisfy our tastebuds amply. And the breakfast? Ah, the breakfast! The cheeses, the meats, the bread, and everything else … y’a d’la joie … here you’ll know that you’re in a place where food and hospitality are loved. A better than solid 4-star to return to again and again.

Negative: Supper that night was chaotic run by two seemingly quite inexperienced waiters - they were lovely but when I asked for a vodka and tonic they didn’t know what I meant. They did go and find me a bottle and then managed to find some tonic which they poured into another glass for me to make my own!
