Positive: This place was a very nice surprise. We stayed only one night, but we had a great time. Mija was very welcoming and caring, and she took time to tell us about this old building and its history. She kept old stuff from the past of this place, so it still has its soul. Knowing she made this place an " artist residency," you can meet different people in the different communal rooms. We met very nice people and had a very nice time. The bedroom and bathroom were really lovely and clean. It's directly located in the town centre so you can walk everywhere in Coutances. The place is surrounded by beautiful churches (including a beautiful cathedral), nice shops and restaurants (and a very nice gallery just one minute walk from the Miséricorde). We highly recommend this place if you wish for a different experience than just being in a hotel room.

Positive: This B&B was not the usual Booking.com fare and so easy to critisize - but in so many ways was a much better experience because it was different. Set in a defunct convent virtually nothing has changed since the last nun walked the corridors 40 years ago - even the furniture. Absoutely gorgeous. There is a commune feel to the place - the owners are really social and they host art expositions in the convents chapel - with the artists living in. Superb art and the chapel itself is just wow! We all mixed and ate together in the evening - such lovely people and so entertaining. No idea who the old bloke at the meal was but his joke telling and humour were brilliant!

Negative: Slightly disorganised! If you are disabled it would be quite difficult given the nature of the building.

Summary: Long after I have forgotton most hotels I will fondly recall our stay at La Miséricorde

Positive: it is a special place, like an Art Academy, frequented by artists from all over the world, to which workshops are made available: it is a pleasure to talk with them and visit their Ateliers. It is located in an old monastery and there is an inner garden. The host, Mija is a lovely person, delicious and helpful. Very good breakfast in a familiar and international environment. we got the room at the first floor, very large and comfortable. The next time we will go to Normandy we will make a route deviation, just to spend again few days in La Misericorde
