Positive: The king suite with balcony (and a bonus smaller balcony) is a lovely, perfect room. Bright, airy, with a timber cladded vaulted ceiling. It makes for a very comfortable and relaxing vibe. Loved the view of the mountains in the balcony. The bathroom is modern and the two basins are a great touch. Air con worked beautifully, almost too efficiently so we would switch it off at night. Only two pillows provided but was able to ask for more. We made great use of the fridge. The tea making facilities were appreciated very much. Thank you also for the smart TV! The hotel is very conveniently located for El Palo and Pedregalejo beach (5-15 min walk depending on which one you go to). Very easy to get the bus with the stop being a 2 min walk away. Can’t stress enough how much better we felt when we got to stay in this room that we originally booked. Thank you to Nick especially, Ángel and others who helped to make the stay comfortable after the hiccup on arrival.
Negative: Originally, I had booked the king suite with balcony. But on arrival we were told we had been upgraded. The upgrade was a bungalow in a separate part of the property. We went to see what it was like but were uncomfortable because it didn’t get a lot of natural light, it was dark, and though it was bigger it wasn’t what we wanted or planned for. It didn’t feel very private as when the shutters are open you can see straight into the lounge/kitchen. The bathroom could do with better ventilation, it is a little bit damp. The finish on the decor isn’t great and the sliding doors are a bit stiff and awkward. There are some white stains on the sofa cushions. The water that came out of the tap was yellow (see photo). We didn’t mention this to reception as we assumed the tap just hadn’t been used for a while and bought some bottled water from the Mercadona. There was some free bottled water provided already it just wasn’t enough. We went back to reception and asked for our original room, but were told it had been booked out by management. It was available again in two days. We stayed in the bungalow in the end for only one night and were moved to the original room. If we had had the opportunity to accept or decline the upgrade it could’ve avoided lots of bad emotions right at the start of the trip. The bungalow is probably great for some, but very uncomfortable for us.
Summary: Would’ve been a 10/10 if not for the surprise room upgrade

Positive: The staff was very nice. The pool was great with nice options for refreshments. Easy walking to a very and active part of the town with many restaurants. Lots of small beaches to choose from if you get there early enough.
Negative: Our original room's AC wasn't working so they changed our room. This was very nice of them. AC was essential for our stay. Parking was very difficult. Street was super busy, just to be aware of.

Positive: La Moderna far exceeded our expectations - it's a fantastic hotel! Our room was well designed, bright, and airy. The pool was ideal and never too busy, with plenty of loungers and seating to choose from. The staff were lovely, always helpful and willing to recommend places to visit and some great restaurants nearby. The location is spot on: just 20 minutes by taxi from the airport, a short bus ride into town, and only a 5–10 minute walk to the beach.
Negative: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like, we had a fantastic stay, but a couple of things to be aware of. The hotel sits next to a road, so you’ll hear traffic noise when you're by the pool. It didn’t bother us at all, especially with headphones in. As it’s an older building, the walls are a little thin. We could hear the neighbour’s alarm clock, for example. That said, the hotel encourages quiet in a really friendly way, and during our stay it was very peaceful.
Summary: La Moderna is a fantastic hotel that far exceeded expectations!

Positive: The beds were comfortable and the staff were helpful. The hotel is very attractive and pretty quiet The location is excellent - on a bus route to Malaga and close to the seafront. .The tea and coffee facilities were a welcome addition.
Negative: We struggled a bit with the toilet which was very high tech but difficult to control!
