Positive: We loved La Pirogue. The beach is amazing. The rooms are also great. Staff were very friendly. Some great activities included, like snorkeling nearby. And the concerts every evening were really good - we particularly loved the Pacific Live Band.
Negative: There was a limited choice of restaurants included and even in the ones that were included in half-board, quite a few things were extras.
Summary: Beautiful hotel and beach. Really friendly staff. Recommended.

Positive: We were at La Pirogue early December and we loved every second of our stay. Before diving into the details, I'd like to first give big kudos to the staff who was extremely friendly all along, from the second we entered the premise up to our leaving. There would be too many people to cite, but each and every one delivered beyond our expectations. The location was absolutely wonderfully situated within a very well maintained palm grove. The fine sand beach was absolutely clean and the water very calm (a nearby coral reef brakes the waves) shallow and warm. There were a lot of water activities included for free and some available for a fee. Regarding the accommodation, the bungalows were absolutely lovable and very functional. The bed was very comfortable, featuring a coffee machine and a mini bar with water, beers, sodas and chips (refurbished everyday with all-inclusive package). The bathroom was clean and water pressure was fine. There were plenty of options for eating and drinking. The main buffet-style restaurant (Wolmar) provides plenty of room for everyone with calmer areas for a more romantic dining experience. The quality of the food was good and changing every day. Two other restaurants (Coconut Café and Magenta) located on the beach were also available and could be booked at least one day in advance. In both places, we were welcomed by a friendly and lovable staff serving great food. There were also two bars on the beach (Beach bar and Coconut), one near the reception (Medine) and the Buddha Bar at Sugar Beach. We especially liked the fact that we had the opportunity to spend time in the hotel next door (Sugar Beach) where we could also enjoy drinks, the pool and the beach, it felt like having two hotels for the price of one. Very clever!! We spent most of the time on the beach and around the swimming pool. There were plenty of sun beds for everyone (with a small caveat that I explain next), both at La Pirogue and Sugar Beach.
Negative: Not much to say here, except maybe that if you want a sun bed on the beach, you need to arrive early. Most people resort to the detestable practice of reserving their spot early in the morning with their bath towel (both at the beach and the swimming pool), instead of playing fair game. So we enjoyed the sun beds within the palm grove until mid afternoon when people started leaving and then we could usually find a spot.

Positive: Wonderful location, nice beach, nice garden.
Negative: The price/value is out of proportion. The price is 5* but the service is 3* at best. Staff is friendly but not well trained and clearly does not have experience in hospitality. Breakfast is nice but too crowded, the fruit plates are not great, the omelette are not well done, etc. The restaurant have absolutely insane pricing as well. It seems that Mauritius in general is trying to milk the tourists to the fullest extend.
Summary: Great location and beautiful beach but overprized.

Positive: The surroundings of the property are very beautiful , a lot of palms and vegetation. They helped us to upgrade to a better room and after was very good , be careful to not book tha basic rooms cause they very small and there is an intens smell of canalizations/ humidity and the AC doesn t worked as it should . The staff was very nice and helpful . Incredible water and beach.
Negative: The first night in the room that they give us was a nightmare, a small room with an intens smell of canalizations/ humidity, AC didn t worked, terrible. Really didn t worth the money that we payed, we were disappointed . Next day they change us the room and all was much more better. Only one restaurant a la carte, local cuisine , otherwise for half bord you have only buffer dinner . The sun beds at the beach could be more comfy. Also the animation in the evening could be improved and we suggest more local music . Overall we recommend , but be sure to book a good room.
