LA ROQUE is a sympathetically restored old winemaker's house on the River Orb, in the Parc Natural Regional du Haut Languedoc. Please note we take weekly bookings from Saturday to Saturday

With stunning views of the river, gorges, mountains and the medieval hill village of Vieussan, the house is situated in an idyllic location with stunning views directly overlooking the River Orb and your own Mediterranean garden.
The property has been divided into 2 separate gites, completely independent of one another. They each have their own private entrance, private gardens, and their own private river beach....Perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking and just relaxing...
GITE 1: LA ROQUE-PISCINE (Private pool - 9m long with sitting shelf/ ideal for small children).
La Roque-Piscine has just been renovated with its own pool and private beach with picnic area and hammocks and superb river swimming. The renovated accommodation sleeps 7: 2 double bedrooms, a third room with a bunk bed and single bed. A new bathroom (with walk in shower), a very large kitchen dining area, 2 comfortable sitting rooms, one directly opening onto the terrace. There is a further private rear terrace overlooking the medieval bridge. Dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, Ipod docks, linen & towels are included, and a cot and high chair is also available on request. We even have 4 kayaks available for use by our guests. SAFETY - Please note we provide a pool alarm for children, however it is your responsibility to make sure it is working. Adult supervision is still essential at all times with children.
GITE 2: LA ROQUE-RIVIERE (With Private River Beach/ No pool)
La Roque-Riviere is the entire ground floor of the house, with direct access to the river, its own private terrace and beach with picnic area and hammocks and superb river swimming. The renovated accommodation sleeps 6: Master bedroom with double bed, and 2 further doubles with twin beds. Bathroom (with walk in shower), a very large (brand new) kitchen/dining/lounge area with a juliette balcony overlooking the Mediterranean garden and river. The Games room is the old cave with its original wine press, has Table Tennis, Table Football, and Dart board. Dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, linen & towels are included, and a cot & high chair is also available on request.
For larger parties, the whole house can be hired (Sleeps 13).

Summary: Idyllic, tranquil haven... The building is lovely with fabulous and commanding views. Inside and out there's bags of space - large, well-equipped kitchen-diner, elegant main bathroom, intimate sitting rooms and comfortable bedrooms; the pool is deceptively large with a lovely terrace - the smaller end terrace is gorgeous too. Very convenient for the stunning river, friendly local restaurant and wine shop! Vieussan itself is very pretty and well worth exploring. Local walks are diverse and marvelous. Perfectly located for exploring slightly further afield too. A great find.

Summary: I find I can't! Superb setting, well appointed, far more spacious than it looks and, for someone who enjoys cooking, well stocked with pans and utensils. I must confess we didn't move much, far too relaxing to sit out on the terrace drinking in the views and other things of course! Some very good pink wines in the area. Good walking area, a couple of GRs and plenty of other footpaths and tracks to choose from. We did the compulsory markets of course and as usual spent far too much on goodies, if no others then go to St Chinian and Lamalou markets. The bar and restaurant across the bridge was far too handy of course, run by a Dutchman with a Cockney English accent and just as warped a sense of humour as myself, food good too. Would I stay here again? Without question although I would like to get my hands on whoever it was who laid that ONE tile 90 degrees out in the hallway! Apart from that full marks Amanda and Mark!

Summary: This beautiful property excelled our expectations. Such a tranquil spot above the Orb which is ideal for swimming and exciting enough for kayaking. The pictures don't do it justice, far more spacious than it would appear and far more lovely. Don't hesitate to book - it was a restorative experience for us and our teenagers loved it too.

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Roque Piscine - it is a gorgeous house with many comfortable rooms in which to enjoy some peace and quiet and the astounding views of the river and countryside. My mother still raves about our holiday there (and it's been six months). The outdoor area was super comfortable and our 5 year old son particularly enjoyed the pool - constantly nagging us to return to it every day we went our exploring. There is nothing to fault about La Roque. We also enjoyed a meal at the pub across the bridge where the owner was very welcoming, the food was typically French and we were bursting afterwards. We visited in June, slightly before the season opens in France but having said that, there was still lots to enjoy in the area - kayaking, rockpools, lots of pizza picnics at the river beaches, wine tasting just up the road (lovely lady there), even buying fruit from the stall holder at the bridge heading towards the rockpools was fun as she bossed my husband about the best buy of the day. We did experience some rain and wind but that wasn't really a problem as there was lots to do anyway and it was warm despite the rain (although the pub owner and shopkeepers seemed to take the rain in summer as a personal insult!). The owners and lovely housekeeper/minder were great to deal with. We are now moving back to New Zealand to live which means our stay at La Roque will be a last memory of our holidays in France - what an excellent memory it is. Thank you.

Summary: The house has been beautifully restored with many original features. It is in a peaceful location overlooking the river which is well used by kayakers. The nearby village of Orlagues has a good bakery and butchers and the Lidl supermarket in Lamalou les Bains was the best we found in the area. We enjoyed walking up Les Gorges d'Heric and also visited the spectacular viaduct at Millau. The outside area around the pool was perfect for relaxing and the small terrace outside the main bedroom was lovely. The kitchen was well equipped and we found we had everything we needed including a supply of towels for use by the pool. A wonderful week in a very scenic area.

Summary: The fact that we have been three times, once to Rivière and twice to Piscine, is a clear indication of our enjoyment of the property and all it has to offer. It is peaceful, spacious, comfortable and generously provided, and it has the most wonderful views of the river, the bridge and the old village on the hill. We hear that the pool is being refurbished, which will add greatly to the amenity. The Orb valley is very attractive, offering a variety of activities for people of all ages. Communication with the owners has been friendly and efficient.

Summary: Fantastic property. Lovely kitchen with great views. Bedrooms light and airy but have shutters to keep heat out during day. Garden is gorgeous. We loved eating the fresh figs from the tree. The river is just wow. Kids swam, fished and kayaked every day. Local restaurant is lovely. Loads of the things to do nearby. Local markets fantastic. Gorges d'Heric is superb - gorgeous walk (husband went for a run on the nearby GR too) and beautiful rock pools to swim in. We stayed in La Roque Riviere (the downstairs one without a pool.) Met the neighbours who used their pool every day but we simply swam in the very safe river. Would definitely come again. Lady who showed us round was really friendly and helpful.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay at La Roque Piscine. The house was well equipped and stylishly furnished. We enjoyed the area around the pool and walking down to the river bank. The kayakers regularly paddling by were making the most of the river. The nearby old village of Olargues is designated one of France's most beautiful and Lamalou les Bains provided a good shopping base and numerous restaurants. We made the 2 hour trek up Gorges d'Heric and also drove over the spectacular Millau viaduct. The Blue Lizard restaurant across the bridge does good food although the adjacent shop was closed while we were there. A very restful break in an area popular with walkers and cyclists due to the lovely scenery and quiet roads.
