LA ROQUE is a sympathetically restored old winemaker's house on the River Orb, in the Parc Natural Regional du Haut Languedoc.

With stunning views of the river, gorges, mountains and the medieval hill village of Vieussan, the house is situated in an idyllic location with stunning views directly overlooking the River Orb and your own Mediterranean garden.
The property has been divided into 2 separate gites, completely independent of one another. They each have their own private entrance, private gardens, and their own private river beach....Perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking and just relaxing...
GITE 2: LA ROQUE-RIVIERE (With Private River Beach/ no pool)
La Roque-Riviere is the entire ground floor of the house, with direct access to the river, its own private terrace and beach with picnic area and hammocks and superb river swimming. The renovated accommodation sleeps 6: Master bedroom with double bed, and 2 further doubles with twin beds. A new bathroom (with walk in shower), a very large (brand new) kitchen/dining/lounge area with a juliette balcony overlooking the Mediterranean garden and river. The Games room is the old cave with its original wine press, has Table Tennis, Table Football, and Dart board. Dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, Ipod docks, linen & towels are included, and a cot & high chair is also available on request.
GITE 1: LA ROQUE-PISCINE (Private pool - 9m long with sitting shelf/ ideal for small children). This is our other gite also available for rent. Please ask for details.
La Roque-Piscine has just been renovated with its own pool and private beach with picnic area and hammocks and superb river swimming. The renovated accommodation sleeps 7: 2 double bedrooms, a third room with a bunk bed and single bed. A new bathroom (with walk in shower), a very large kitchen dining area, 2 comfortable sitting rooms, one directly opening onto the terrace. There is a further private rear terrace overlooking the medieval bridge. Dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, Ipod docks, linen & towels are included, and a cot and high chair is also available on request. We even have 4 kayaks available for use by our guests. SAFETY - Please note we provide a pool alarm for children, however it is your responsibility to make sure it is working. Adult supervision is still essential at all times with children.
For larger parties, the whole house can be hired (Sleeps 13).

Summary: Everything about La Roque Riviere met expectaions from the initial handover by Lydia, the local Manager, to the exceptional location on the River Orb and fantastic countryside. The accommodation was excellent and swimming in the Orb under the medieval bridge was amazing and refreshing. We spent hours in the water ! There is so much to do and visit in the area and wish we could have booked for two weeks instead of one, but clearly the place is so sought after it is best to book much earlier. Steve Fothergill

Summary: A clean and well maintained Gite in a fantastic location overlooking the River Orb. We had a great week with so many things to do. It went too fast so need to book two weeks next time !! Lydia the local manager was very welcoming and kind. The Kitchen facilities were great and views from the Juliette balcony amazing - especially at night looking up to the old village of Vieussan. Swimming in the River was fantastic and a great way to cool off. It was interesting how the river level changed depending on the release of water from the hydro further upstream - but always safe to swim. Meals at the Lezard Bleu just over the bridge were really good

Summary: Fantastic property, full of character with great access to the river. We had an amazing holiday and rally made the most of all that the area had to offer. The house was clean, comfortable and as described. We can't wait to come back next year!

Summary: Our third year back at this fantastic gem of a propery in a gorgeous region of France with lots of activities in the area for all the family. A real find in a stunning location, amazing views with its own private beach! You can enjoy hanging out at the villa, going to the river on kayaks or swimming or chilling reading a book! Kids were happy exploring too. The house itself (we actually have stayed in both Le Roque and Le Piscine) are typically French in style but with all amenities and tastefully decorated - clean and comfortable, most importantly. The picturesque Roquebrum is only 10 mins away, where we found there are some great family places to eat (good pizza place), and going further say just 20 mins on you can get to Cessanon to the local french market on Saturday.

Summary: Myself, my husband and our 3 boys (then 10,12 and 16) stayed at La Roque Riviere for 2 weeks in August 2015. We had the most wonderful time. The river is stunning and we swam most days. There is plenty of opportunities to canoe this beautiful stretch of river. There is a good restaurant over the bridge where we enjoyed some lovely meals but mostly we had BBQ's on the lovely terrace area overlooking the river. We enjoyed walking to the small village store each morning to collect our freshly baked croissants. There are some lovely places to visit, a highlight for us being some Gorges nearby where again the scenery is stunning with lots of opportunity to take a swim. The accomodation itself is very comfortable and we came home after 2 weeks completely refreshed and relaxed.

Summary: We spent several unforgettable months at La Roque, absolutely charmed by the village way of life, the house and the location. As Australians taking a mini sabbatical from life, and with a four-month old and not quite two-year-old in tow, it was critical for us that the accommodation was kid-friendly and had all the comforts of home. La Roque and Vieussan surpassed every expectation we had. The house itself is gorgeous, perched on top of a gorgeous river, with all the modern conveniences (including a very well stocked kitchen) set within a very traditional stone house. There are no shortages of breathtaking running and cycling paths; markets and boulangeries with rustic and artisan food and wine aplenty; day trips to countless les plus beaux villages - it goes on! The local hosts were warm and friendly, and Mark and Amanda went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable throughout our stay, offering cots, and high chairs and other amenities that make it easier with kids around. It's very evident they genuinely want their holiday house to be your holiday house. We can't recommend this La Roque enough!

Summary: We stayed at La Roque Riviere for a week in July 2015 with our two dogs and had a lovely time. The house is very comfortable and has everything you would need but the big attraction is the glorious riverside setting - a lovely (steep) garden steps down to a beautiful stretch of river ideal for swimming, canoeing etc or just lazing in the hammock. A 5 min walk across the bridge Le Lezard Bleu bar / restaurant served very nice food and as vegetarians they had good options for us which is not always the case in rural France! The area offers great walking and lovely villages and markets to explore. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Le Roque.
