Comfortable, spacious home on a beautiful, small lake midway between Interlaken and Lucerne. Located in Lungern, a quiet, down-home farming village. Individually owned by family with kids, comfortable for large family or two to three couples. Direct access to lake for swimming; walking distance to shops, restaurants, waterfall, tennis courts, mini-golf, unique indoor firing range, hiking trails, beach on the lake. Small motor boat rental optional with house; nearby rental of bikes, wind-surfers, paddle boats. Located in the center of Switzerland, perfect for day trips around the country. 20 minute walk from the station to the house and 25 minute walk to the station (uphill), about 1.6 KM .
All three bedrooms are upstairs. Master bedroom with own bathroom, skylight, door to balcony, twin beds fit together to make large queen-sized bed, but can be separated. Children's bedroom sleeps three in bunk bed and single (with another single that can be pulled out for 4th person), and access to balcony. Guest bedroom has twin beds fit together to make large queen-sized bed, but can be separated.
Notes: Owner likes to cook so kitchen is ready to cook for a crowd: dishwasher, glass-ceramic stove, full-size refrigerator, oven with convection oven, microwave, plenty of plates and pots and pans including equipment for making raclette, fondue, wok-cooking, etc. Kitchen gives onto covered patio with picnic table and gas grill for easy outdoor cooking/eating. Playroom in basement with toys, games, computer with Internet access, flat-screen TV and DVD player with eclectic collection DVDs. Big and varied library for adults and kids, mostly English but also French and German. Screens on at least one window per room (very rare in Europe!) keep out flies and mosquitoes, and house stays cool even in summer if shades are closed to keep sun out. House is insulated well and floor heat and fireplace keep downstairs toasty warm; upstairs also warm, heated by radiators. Good-sized yard, fenced in for kids.
Lungern is a charming, peaceful village in the Alps between two of the country's most popular touristic regions: Central Switzerland and the Berner Oberland. Easy access by train or car to Lucerne and Interlaken and the lake and mountain areas around them, or stay at home to bike and hike on local trails, and swim and fish in the crystal-clear lake of Lungern. See glaciers and high peaks in scenic excursions to Susten, Grimsel and Furqua passes, the Jungfrau, Grindelwald, Rosenlaui. Half hour drive to Ballenberg outdoor museum, or music festival in Lucerne. Drive 20 minutes to larger resort at Meiringen-Hasliberg. Village has a low-key, authentic atmosphere: not all shopkeepers speak English, no signs in Japanese or Arabic, no crowds and the local cultural festivals, from St. Niklaus to traditional wrestling to cow auctions are still celebrated by the townspeople, not just staged for tourists.
PS: Finally please note that Lungern lake is a natural lake but the water is used to produce hydro electricity during wintertime. Therefore the water level of the lake is low from January through May. The lake fills up again in spring with the snow melting away. The house is on the shallow end during the winter months.

The location was absolutely perfect - an idyllic setting that combines the peacefulness of a remote village with the accessibility to key tourist spots such as Lucerne and Interlaken. Summary: If you want a genuine experience of living in Switzerland, this is the place for you. Wonderful location, a short drive from Lucerne, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, etc. Beautiful town and lake... don't neglect the Lungern/Turren Funicular which is a 5 minute walk from this property and takes you to spectacular (and less crowded) alpine hikes. The hosts are wonderful and highly responsive. The town is lovely and really gives you the feeling of living in rural Switzerland. Highly recommended for families (lots of space) or as a couple's getaway. We would return in a heartbeat and will always have a special place in our hearts for Lungern!

Summary: This house is in the perfect location for all we did as we explored the lakes region of central Switzerland. The house is a 20-25 minute walk thru the village to the Lungern train station (we chose to not rent a car) and we travelled daily between Interlaken and Lucerne. Magnificent mountains and breathtaking lakes were everywhere as we enjoyed Brienz, Interlaken, Meiringen (Aare Gorge), Engelberg (cable car to Mt. Titlis), Grindelwald (gondola ride to top of mountain, hike to Lake Bachalpsee) and Trummelbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen. Mid week we delighted in a day at "home" riding the Lungern Turren cablecar to the top where we ate a delicious outdoor lunch while listening to two men play the alphorn! Patrick and Alice's lovely home is literally a few steps from the beautiful aquamarine Lake Lungern. We delighted every morning to view the quaint village surrounding the lake while watching the occasional fishing boat pass by the house. In the background was the sound of nearby cows and their bells. This was such an idyllic and serene setting for us to spend a week! The house itself was spacious and very clean, easily accommodating the 4 of us adults. The kitchen was well-stocked and Patrick welcomed our arrival by providing wine, bread and cheese! Patrick could not have been more responsive, helpful and friendly. This was our second stay and we've referred friends who also delighted in the house and its location. I wholeheartedly recommend Patrick and Alice's Swiss home! Sue and John

Summary: From the moment we arrived we were at rest. Everything we needed was at the house and the lake was wonderful. Patrick the host was very friendly and helpful and would have enjoyed sitting down with him to here about his and Alice's interesting careers. The only thing that we would ask for to make it better would be a couple of paddle boards.

Summary: Cannot say enough good things about Patrick and Alice and their beautiful home. We felt so welcomed and found them to be so helpful with any recommendations. The home is located directly on lake Lungern which set the tone for our stay. Waking every morning to the lake and mountain views was breathtaking. Plan on staying again next summer.

Summary: We enjoyed a lovely week at the house by the lake. The water was clean and warm and we went swimming every day. The house is well equipped and has various seating areas and comfy lounges in and outside. You have a beautiful mountain and lake view and many different activities to do in the nearby area. Thanks for saving our Corona Summer and providing a very suitable substitute for our cancelled Canadian houseboat vacation.

Summary: We were looking for adventure, a place to relax, to immerse ourselves in Swiss culture and scenery. We got all of the above in this charming house in the small but central town of Lungern. Our host was fantastic, even picked us up at the train station and took us to the grocery store because it was going to be closed for the next few days! The house is well appointed and the location is hard to beat although there is a good amount of walking involved to and from the train station but it was perfect to burn off all the fondue that we ate! We took advantage of the boat and couldn't have asked for a more scenic setting with the lake, waterfall and mountains in the background. Must do while you're here: 1. Take the boat to the other side of the lake and visit the Kaiserstuhl restaurant. 2. Take the cable car to Turren 3. Visit the "cave restaurant" Cantina Caverna and shoot some guns 4. Take the train to Lucerne, Bernese Oberland and Interlachen We will be back for sure!
