5 Bedroom Cottage in Gloucester

Enjoy beautiful views and sunsets in this serene and rustic oceanfront cottage, located between Annisquam and Rockport on Cape Ann just one hour north of Boston. At the end of a country lane, this large cottage offers a spectacular wrap around porch, rolling grass lawn leading to steps to the ocean. One can sunbath, kayak and swim at high tide, play crocket and badminton, or just read and watch the boats go by.
One can relax at the end of the day, cooking meals in the summer kitchen facing the ocean, while dining at a large country kitchen table or relaxing on the Adirondack chairs. There is a full kitchen in the back of the house, and a grand room for indoor dining or just hanging out. The second floor master bedroom has a king bed and amazing views of the coastline. The first floor has 2 bedrooms with queen beds, a bunk room, and a small room with a single bed. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, microwave and BBQ. There is internet and phone reception but no central heat, air conditioning, or TV.
Guest access
The whole house and property is your domain except some storage in the back of the house. There is a small cottage next door and we are respectful of their part of the front lawn on the water. You have immediate access to great rocks for climbing. You may see some folks walking along here because technically it's public space and they walk in from Halibut Point park. Just say hello!

Neighborhood overview
The property is on the edge of the Ipswich Bay just down the road from Halibut Point. You will love walking down to the seashore for a stroll or biking off to the nearby national park. You are in an exclusive area that has access to the waterfront of greater Ipswich Bay. Just nearby is the Halibut Point ensconced in a national park area. Rockport just a few miles down the road for a quaint visit to another seaside New England town. Down the road is the well-known Lobster Pool Restaurant. Sit outside at one of the dozen picnic benches and enjoy the sea breeze and the view of the bay. Lanesville is a small town center set apart with great local shops and restaurants. Pictures here are of the downtown area with restaurants and shops. There are a couple of places close by to pick up simple groceries or drive out to the main area where there is a Market Basket or Shaws.
Getting around
You will need a car. There is a T Commuter rail if you want to take it in to Boston for a day trip.
House Rules (please read thoroughly)
1. Two car parking limit. Keep on our side of parking space -left of #31 marker.
2. Day-visitors limited to four people only including children. Total 12 one the property at anytime max.
3. No loud music or shouting (it's a quiet family neighborhood).
4. Experience required to use woodburning stove; case by case basis.
5. No firepits on the property.
6. Strictly separate all recycling and trash.
7. All trash in purple Gloucester bags.
8. Recycling never in plastic bags.
9. If staying on a Thursday, take up the purple bags and recycling bins in your car to the top of the road to the main road for pick up. And bring back bins after.
10. Quiet hours 9pm-8am.
11. Take note of where the property line is and do not cross into neighbor's yard.
12. Use only our steps to access the rocks and ocean. Do not use neighbor’s steps on the right.

Summary: Our family (3 generations) had a fantastic week at this awesome older cottage. We had everything we needed here. From cooking breakfast overlooking the ocean to board games in the living room at night, we loved this property. This property will not be a good fit for you if you want a big screen tv or big fancy bathrooms but it was awesome for us - with wi fi, who needs a tv? And the bathrooms were perfectly fine for us ( shower in one, tub shower in the other and 2 bathrooms so no waiting in line!) For us the best thing by far was the proximity to the ocean. My husband fished, my daughter played on the rocks with a little girl staying at a neighboring cottage , and we all loved the spectacular sunsets. Property management was great - very responsive and great communication.

Summary: Glorious sunsets on the water followed by dinners on the deck and days spent exploring the rocks and going to the beach and surrounding towns for treasure. The house was perfect for our family and we can't wait to come back again! Mark was great and made sure we had everything we needed.

Summary: Our 3-generation family of 9 adults and 2 toddlers thoroughly enjoyed our long week-end at this cottage while in the area for a family wedding. The cottage was extremely family/child friendly and comfortable. We so appreciated having spices, coffee and other "extras" available for our usage. Mark met us and gave us a thorough orientation and was also quickly available to answer a few other questions we had. We spent lots of time either on the big enclosed porch or in the chairs down by the water. We never tired of the soothing sound of the water or of the incredible views. Would love to return some day!

Summary: We rented this gorgeous place to host a family reunion and it could not have been more perfect! We had plans to show family all the sites on Cape Ann but no one wanted to leave this beautiful spot. People were in awe of the real cottage feel of the place. The house is such a treasure and so rare to find an authentic Gloucester cottage. Friends and family were talking about renting again next year!

Summary: We loved the house and location! Nothing beats the views from the porch in the mornings and evenings, sound of the sea, and relaxing and reading on the rocks (and swimming at high tides) in front of the house. We loved the charm and history of the house. The children loved being on the lane, and playing in the yard and on the rocks. Wonderful time had by all.

Summary: #1 Feature: That long screened in porch! We cooked, napped, read, ate every meal and lazily surveyed the spectacular view. (Glorious sunsets, lobster fishermen checking traps, our kids kayaking off the rocks, an immature bald eagle and even a small whaleglided by most days!) We had a wonderful time on Ravenwood Lane! It was just like visiting my grandparents on the Jersey Shore back in the 60s: A bit rough around the edges but just our type of vacation place! Three nice bedrooms for the adults and a "bunk room" for the kids (beds too small for adults and a bit "musty" but I'm sure when filled with the scent of suntan lotioned kids and with a fan bringing in the sea air it would be fine.) The single bedroom needs work especially the windows and area outside those windows- we didn't want to put anyone in it so used it for storage. John was great about getting back us quickly to answer questions and to mow the lawn. Loved hearing about the history of the place and it's obvious that it has seen generations of happy family get-togethers. Thank you!!

Summary: This house may not be the fanciest place you have ever seen, but you can't question the views and the relaxed atmosphere. Amazing porch and lots of space. We had a birthday party with 20 people. No complaints from us. In addition to house there were kayaks and just about any summer activity you can imagine.
