'Les Etables' is a stylish and comfortable three bedroom stone cottage located in the main courtyard. Big open plan double height sitting/dining room and brand new modern kitchen. Tumbled travertine floor with stone walls makes this a stylish family retreat. There is a ground floor kingsize bedroom, family bathroom with bath, shower and WC and a further kingsize bedroom. Upstairs there is a large kingsize bedroom and shower/wash room. Quality bedlinen is provided and beds are made up for your arrival. Outside of the cottage there is a picnic table and bbq. Shared heated swimming pool.
La Cannonerie was built in 1826 and incorporates parts of a medieval hunting lodge believed to have been built by Francois 1st. All of our cottages are stylish and comfortable and the perfect location to relax and enjoy a fabulous french holiday.
Located in the stunning Petite Champagne Cognac region there are no immediate neighbours and guests can relax and enjoy the large 14x6m heated shared swimming pool and terrace with its commanding views across vines and rolling French countryside. About an hour from the beautiful beaches of the coast and the famous islands of Re and Olereon La Cannonerie is the perfect location for day trips to either the beach or one of the many other places of interest including Bordeaux, St Emilion, Cognac, Angouleme, La Rochelle and Saintes. The English owners have an eye of design and have created modern interiors without detracting from the traditional stone exteriors. A perfect holiday destination for you to relax and unwind.

Summary: This was our second year at La Cannonerie, in a difference gite this year, and it was equally as stunning and peaceful as last year. The properties are finished to a very high standard, whilst retaining all of their character and charm. Les Etables is very spacious and even more impressive than the pictures show. Nothing is too much bother for the hosts/owners, and the whole site is so peaceful and picturesque, its a perfect place to unwind.

Summary: We stayed for 4 nights in this beautiful property. The standard of the gite is extremely high with all modern comforts and very clean. La Cannonerie itself is a stunning property and the swimming pool and loggia provide great entertainment spaces for adults and children. I would highly recommend a stay in beautiful countryside a great place to escape. The owners did everything they could to make our stay as pleasant as possible, we will return.

Summary: Like many of its neighbours, once a producer of fine Cognac and still today surrounded by rolling hills of vineyards and fields of sunflower. La Cannonerie sits amongst a lattice of 'white lanes' that link tiny settlements to quaint and unspoilt villages. It would be hard to imagine a more relaxing 'escape' destination! Around 90 minutes from the exclusive shops, port and budget flight destination of La Rochelle, a little less to the gorgeous coast lines of La Gironde and Ile d'Oleron. Or choose from a dozen rural market towns, bedecked with château, castles, restaurants, Romanesque churches, not to mention Cognac distilleries. Well equipped and recently and sensitively re-fitted to a very high standard, the gites are substantial original stone and shuttered labourers cottages, dotted around a substantial Cannonerie courtyard. Guests can enjoy the afternoon sun from a covered cool communal seating area or savour the amazing sunsets from the adjoining hill top open air swimming pool. In the fridge, you may well find a little gift from the next door Bertrand distillery, your invitation to stroll across the vineyard and pay a little visit. Oh, and why not barbecue your evening meal and sip your four euro bottle of local wine from those afore mentioned markets, and finish off with a tipple from the neighbouring field. We did - every single night!

Summary: La Cannonerie - a rural French dream destination. The renovation of this beautiful old property is brilliant and to a really high standard yet staying sympathetic to the original stone frame. Everything you could possibly want - contemporary style inside and dreamy antique outside. A lovely large guest swimming pool was immaculate and warm and overlooked beautiful vines and rolling countryside. The sunsets were spectacular, the stars without city light pollution awesome and a sense of stepping back in time palpable. The owners were friendly, charming and helpful when it came to planning trips out. The Bertrand cognac distillers right next door is well worth a visit for a wonderful tour and tasting. Make sure you have weight and space to take some of the finest Cognac and Pineau home with you. I personally would recommend trips to La Rochelle, Angouleme, Talmont and Aubeterre as ones not to miss but there is plenty more to see and you'll have the roads pretty much to yourselves too. I can't wait to book a return trip and would recommend La Cannonerie to couples looking for romance, (perfect wedding location) as well as friends and families wishing to be all together but with their own space. Summary: The newly modernised cottages are neutrally decorated with new kitchens and bathrooms. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment and was easy to use. The downstairs is open plan with a private outside area with seating and barbecue. We found our cottage a pleasure to stay in. La Cannonerie is in an excellent position with great views of the surrounding countryside. On site, there is a new outdoor swimming pool and a games area including table tennis, table football, croquet and a children's play area. Our children, 7 and 5, thoroughly enjoyed these activities. There is a super local shop in Reaux, where you can pre order baguettes etc. for the following day, and stocks a good selection of local produce. There are plenty of good supermarkets in nearby Jonzac, such as LeClerc, for further shopping needs. The owners are a charming English couple who made us feel very welcome. They made some excellent recommendations on day outings. We followed their advice on taking a trip to explore St. Emilion, which included a tour of the vineyards, and spent a day at La Coubre beach. Both were a thorough success. They also recommended an excellent local restaurant in Jonzac (10 mins by car), called Le Coq d'or, which is incredibly good value. In short, I cannot recommend La Cannonerie highly enough, and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Summary: We had a fantastic stay at La Cannonerie. From the photographs and description of the property our expectations were high - on arrival they were exceeded. Very clean property, tastefully furnished and well equipped. The open plan living accommodation worked very well with our young children. There was a thoughtful welcome pack on arrival. Talfryn and Shelley were very welcoming and had great local knowledge and recommendations. The lovely pool area and the small play area for smaller children proved popular with our youngsters. The availability of Cbeebies was also a welcome distraction! The property is very well located for exploring the Charente Maritime. It was also great having a village nearby - only a short walk away. We will definitely be recommending La Cannonerie to family and friends.

Summary: Having seen the pictures of the guest houses and the pool and the grounds/property online before we booked, I have to say that we had *really* high expectations. They were exceeded almost immediately! The entire property is gorgeous and we loved hanging out in the courtyard with some local wine enjoying the sun. There are lots of little nooks and crannies and chairs and lounges to just relax at and read or maybe a little mid-day rest post cognac tasting in the area:) As far as the unit, it had everything. The design is modern but still feels very warm and homey. We cooked a few meals and they had literally thought of everything from a garlic press to a rolling pin and measuring cups. You're also welcomed with homemade raw honey (amazing) and fresh eggs from the property (never had a better omelet, how can I get eggs like that in the USA??), also obviously a crusty loaf of French bread. Amenities? Washer, dryer, beautiful brand new bathrooms with huge tub and rainshower... The wood burning fireplace in the living room which we used even when it wasn't even cold. Big comfy beds and spacious rooms - with stone walls that had to be 2 feet thick (if you have any snorers:)) Talf and Shelly were outstanding hosts. Super friendly with spot on recommendations for the area. Moulin Du Val De Seugne was probably the best dinner of our entire trip in France. They also pointed us in the direction of some vineyards that had local cognacs and pineaus that you can't find anywhere else. We brought back a case of nearby Bertrand pineau that we've already had to hide from ourselves and our friends. I'd recommend this place in a second. I'll be going back myself as soon as I can! Summary: A warm welcome and a beautiful place. As a family of four we traveled to France by car using the Eurotunnel which was very quick, and found this place very easily using our satnav. Set back from Reaux, the nearest village, La Cannonerie has commanding views of the surrounding area of grape vines and woodlands. Jonzac, Janzac and Cognac are a 10-20 minute drive away for supplies. The 'holiday let' (Gites) was clean and tidy and had everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Easy to use appliances, and a 'welcome pack' of helpful items. Cool and chic, for hot summer days and cosy and comfortable for a restful stay. We found great places to eat out locally and a 'water world' lagoon park for children. Best of all is the fact that you do not need to travel anywhere as they have a beautiful swimming pool to relax by and amazing countryside to view. Would suit couples or families.
