Summary: Stayed a couple of nights in this 'small house' on a rural property just outside of Waipawa and close to some very nice beaches. First impressions were very good. The place was clean and tidy and had most of what anyone would need for staying here. The owners were friendly and helpful concerning the place and spent some time showing us how everything worked. We got in late in the day our first night and had a nice walk around the neighborhood. The first night was good, but it took a while for the house to cool down. We were there in one of the hottest times they have had in the Hawkes Bay and this is where the place was a bit disappointing. It did not work well in hot weather. The table and chairs were in a place that never sees shade, even early morning and at dinner time. We had to move them up on the narrow verandah. The kitchen had a very low ceiling and was a clear plastic so when we got back to cook dinner the second night it was an oven. No ventilation in the kitchen (and the main sleeping room). We tried to cool the main room down by opening all the windows but when the sun went down we wre inundated by insects attracted to the lights and TV. Close the door and windows and still roasting. We finally turned all the lights out and opened the door and windows and the insects still came because the outdoor motion sensor never went off with all the insects hovering around it. It finaly cooled down about 11 pm and we finally got to sleep as the insects kind of left and the room had cooled down. The place was probably perfect in normal Hawkes Bay temps but we didn't enjoy it. Had to stay away all day because the room was too hot. The little evaporative cooler didn't work, just blew hot air. It was supposed to pump water up to trickle down through the mesh but the pump was obvioulsy not working. Didn't find this out until the second night and the hosts seem to go to bed early so didn't want to bother them. In conclusion I woulld recommend this place in general but NOT when the weather is hot and bugs start flying!

Summary: Other than the distance to the loo this was a cute and comfortable place to stay. Kate was very understanding of my mix up of the booking. Very nice hosts. Thanks
