Lodging@Laurelen is a delightful space to gather with a few friends or host a small family get-away! Our secluded property has so much to offer nature lovers... trails nearby, trees and birds galore, spacious backyard, fire pit area, basket ball court (shared space), and a pond. We invite you to enjoy part of our well loved home, 'Laurelen', that we have created in the lower level, just for you! Our family resides in the upstairs space and leaves you to your own privacy. We want you to feel as comfortable and 'at home' as we are, so please understand that you will hear little and big footsteps overhead as well as piano playing (beautiful or not!). You may also hear squeals of delight or other amusing sounds that come from precious little toddlers ;).
No worries about your noise though! Somehow that stays downstairs quite willingly...
Outside, roast marshmallows around the fire pit and soak in the serenity of the forest. We have a small charcoal grill for your use as well.
Enjoy Bocce or basketball in the great outdoors. A short walk through the woods will bring you to a quaint little pond with a floating dock.
The Nature Conservancy surrounds the property and provides beautiful, well kept trails to explore.
We are located just 20 minutes outside of historic Downtown C'ville and within minutes to numerous wineries.

Summary: Very nice country like cottage that was off the beaten path. Beautiful setting, good location and the home was well maintained. Homeowner was helpful as well. We had a very nice weekend.

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Laurelen. We were celebrating our mother’s 99th birthday. The property was perfect for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren. The house had more room than I anticipated which was a welcome surprise. The basketball court, the surrounding woods, the front porch and the fire pit provided a lot of outdoor activities for everyone. The playroom was perfect for the 4-2 year olds; lots to do and lots of toys. The back decks were delightful for dinner time as well as the large kitchen table. The house was a very comfortable stay for everyone. Mary was a very responsive and welcoming host. I would highly recommend Laurelen.

Summary: The house was beautiful, and exactly as described. There was a lot more room than I expected which was a nice surprise! We wanted to order carryout last night I contacted the owner and she gave us a great recommendation nearby. The only issue we had was the shower pressure was pretty bad. Having said all that, we would definitely stay here again and look forward to our next visit.

Summary: We rented this for a bachelorette party and it was a perfect place to stay! The house is spacious and gorgeous! The rooms were cozy and comfortable and Mary was a wonderful host! Would absolutely stay here again!

Summary: It couldn't have been better. All family members had things to do and games to play. Hiking and the river weren't too difficult to access. Architecture of the house was inspired. The whole family loved it and I got credit for finding such a lovely place. We loved it!

Summary: We had a lovely time at this beautiful home. There were plenty of rooms for everyone to have their own spaces and enough common spaces to get together. The front porch, back porch and firepit areas were so welcoming for gathering, but with the rain we ended up spending a lot of time lingering around the spacious table in the kitchen. No one was disappointed. It was the perfect place for catching up. Beds and linens were very comfortable and all the amenities we needed were there. The check-in process was easy and made it possible for parties coming from various locations to settle in whenever they arrived. The out-of-town location meant we drove through beautiful green countryside and woods to get to the property and that we were serenaded by frogs and crickets at night — loved that!! It also meant that we needed to allow 25 min to drive the 7 miles from the house to downtown Charlottesville. It was fine, but it did require some planning. Everyone in our party commented how perfect the place was. We would definitely book here again if we are gathering friends near Charlottesville, and next time we’d plan to stay longer. Five stars!!

Summary: We loved our stay at this property! It was clean and so cute and well taken care of. The property was awesome with a hammock, fire pit, and deck. The host Mary went above and beyond and dropped pizza off for us Friday night! Our only issue is the house is off the beaten path and farther away from things than we estimated on Google maps because of the windy roads and mileage so it did take a long time to get downtown or to a lot of the wineries and caused lots of car sickness in Ubers and the van we rented. So just plan ahead for transportation!

Summary: This house is beautiful! It is clean, new, and spacious! So many amenities, both indoor and outdoor. The host provides alot of little extras for your rural convenience, ie firewood for the fire pit, spices in the kitchen, basketballs and soccer balls for the courts. The playroom is super fun! Although included in the listing, pay attention that the host may be in the basement apartment. We didn't and it is not a problem, but a bit awkward.

Summary: This location was absolutely perfect for my bachelorette weekend. There was plenty of space for everyone, the rooms were adorably themed, and the whole group was so excited about the secluded but not completely middle-of-nowhere feeling. The hosts were so communicative when we had questions as & I was so appreciative of them being flexible with a couple of guests who got into town earlier than we had planned - allowing them to drop of bags or simply rest on the porch while they finished getting the property ready for us to check-in. We even had a wine tour pick us up & there was no issue with them finding us or getting to the property, plus we were still considered in the Albemarle Co radius which meant we didn't have to pay the additional "pick-up fee" so this is DEFINITELY a great spot to host a group for a trip for a great price! Only small thing that we noticed was the WiFi signal was very spotty throughout the weekend. Not a deal breaker, it just impacted folks' phone use & music / TV streaming.
