3 Bedroom House in Burie

A lovely traditional Charentaise house ('The Old Bakery') in Burie, 5 minutes walk to shops, 15 minutes drive to Cognac with its restaurants and distillery tours, 20 minutes drive to the Roman town of Saintes, and 45 minutes drive to the large sandy beaches of the West coast such as Royan.
At the moment we are implementing at least 2 days non-occupancy between stays, enhanced cleaning with disinfectant, and there is no person-to-person contact during check-in and check-out
It is one hour from La Rochelle (airport) and 30 minutes from Angouleme (TGV high speed train)
The house is newly-refurbished, very spacious, with comfortable brand new beds and mattresses, and with a large tranquil garden. It is perfect for family holidays, activity holidays, or couples wanting to get away from it all. It has central heating, WiFi, TV, a working fireplace, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, hob, and microwave and two impressive fireplaces. It was formerly the village bakery and is next to a Cognac and Pineau producer with vineyard. The market town of Burie has a well-stocked small supermarket, restaurant, patisserie, butcher, bank with 24 hour cash dispenser, library, and chemist all within 5 minutes walk.
The surrounding area is perfect for rambling, cycling, boating or bathing in the Charente river; visiting the Cognac houses of Remy Martin, Hennessy, Martel, and more; visiting magnificent churches such as the one at St Jean D'Angely or the Roman Ampitheatre in Saintes; or take an hour's drive to La Rochelle, the sandy beaches of Royan and Chatelaillon, or the islands: Ile de Re, ile d'Oleron, and ile d'Aix.

Summary: It was lovey. No restaurants, only in Cognac about 15 minutes away. We would definitely stay again.

Summary: We had a lovely time staying at Karl and Imtaz gite in Burie, Charente-Maritime. The gite was well furnished, and the bed was super comfy. There was everything you needed at the gite for a comfortable stay. The gite had a garden to relax in, and plenty of garden furniture. The gite was 10/15 minutes walk into the village where there was a Carrfour Contact and petrol station. The bonus was the gite was next to a Vineyard and you can buy pineau and wine from the owners. There are some lovely walks down the country lanes from the gite. Lots of places to visit in the area including Cognac, Saintes and Jonzac. Royan, which is on the coast, is about one hours drive away, and well worth a visit. Thank you Carl and Imtaz for an enjoyable week at your gite.

Summary: My wife and I are old hands at vacation rentals in France (over 30 some years)--and this spacious village house is a favorite. It's well located --adjacent to vast vineyards, a short walk to the new Carrefour suermarket (which has a excellent butcher and good bread), and in proximity to the beautiful towns of Saintes and Cognac. The owners are most genial and helpful.

Summary: Excellent stay in Burie, Fantastic location. Very convenient for everything. We were with Our Grand Daughter and went to the beach 3 times in a week. Burie is Capital of The Bordeliers Cognac Grand Cru, we bought some prize winning Pineau from Neighbour. Karl was very good and easy to deal with, everything very well organized, and he always respond in minutes through contact. Highly recommend staying at The Old Bakery.--Nigel

Summary: We had a great time in Burie, and Karl & Imtaz's house was wonderful. The house has been recently renovated and is chic and comfortable; plus the garden area is great for relaxing family meals. Karl was excellent to deal with and super helpful with directions and ideas. Be sure to visit nearby Cognac distilleries and the Abbaye at Fontdouce, and I recommend the vineyard walks around Burie - including one that starts/ ends near the house - but its a little tricky to find the unmarked track. Both the house and the area have a lovely feel – highly recommended :)
