Summary: This is one of the loveliest holiday homes we've ever stayed in. The house is spacious, tastefully decorated, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The terrace is wonderful, the two kitchens are well equipped and the bedrooms are charming. The location is perfect too. The village has a supermarket, a butchers and one of the best boulangeries we've ever visited (try the Redortais bread - it's delicious!) The Canal du Midi is a two-minute walk from the front door and there's a lovely local restaurant just by the canal. There is so much to do in the local area as well - we only managed to do a fraction of what was on offer in the week we spent there. If you like to be active you can walk or cycle along the Canal du Midi, with cycle hire available locally. Head five minutes down the road to Puicheric and you can hire a canoe to go down the River Aude. The lake in Homps is lovely too, where you can swim, cycle or hire a canoe. Our sons especially loved O2Adventure, just south of Carcassonne, where we spent an afternoon on high ropes and zip wires. There are plenty of historic sites too - Carcassonne of course, plus plenty of castles, abbeys, caves and other sites of interest. Narbonne was a fantastic day out too - many thanks to Nancy for the suggestion! - with bags of Roman history alongside pretty streets to wander down. On pretty much any day of the week there is a market somewhere nearby, and Emile has very helpfully left a folder at the gite with plenty of information about this and other attractions. Finally, if wandering through pretty villages and stopping at local cafes is your thing then you can happily do this the whole week without straying far. This house was a truly wonderful find and we can't wait to return.

Summary: The house is a cool stone cottage with endless homely touches. It really feels like you are borrowing a family home. It is cool and peaceful on the ground floor opening onto the lane way which is very quiet but puts you in touch with the passing life of this little corner of the old village. The bedrooms are all on the first floor and are a good size and nicely decorated and furnished. The third floor summer kitchen is a lovely touch and the roof terrace that opens off makes the house. The advertising shows a large parasol which was not there in our stay (mid May) but would be essential in high season. The house is specified as sleeping 6/7 but the bathrooms would make this quite challenging. Neither of the shower rooms really works. Hot water is plentiful but the fixtures are tired. We were just two so made the best of this but a larger party might struggle. The position of the house in the village and the area is perfect and everyone very friendly and welcoming. Would certainly visit again as so much to enjoy. Particular mention to Narbonne & Carcassonne although we especially enjoyed Lastours and Minerve.

Summary: We enjoyed 3 weeks in January in La Redorte while helping a friend renovate his flat nearby. The house was a convenient base, with excellent facilities, including a wood burning stove which kept us cosy when we encountered some unexpected snow on arrival! La Redorte is well-placed for exploring the Canal du Midi and villages surrounding Carcassonne and Narbonne, where there are lots of vineyards in evidence. We would highly recommend the cottage - which has the added advantage of the handy roof terrace to relax and recuperate after a busy day.

Summary: From the start we felt immediately at home. The property was clean, and comfortable. The roof terrace was especially nice. Great location and, as birdwatchers, we saw beautiful birds like the hoopoo and swarms of bee eaters (side note: we read a review before leaving saying the furniture was worn out, but the owners renewed it recently). Incidentally, we left the key of the house inside and had to call the owner. He answered immediately and we had quick access again to the house. Great service! All in all, great area, especially if you love nature, french villages and great food (we recommend the restaurant in Aigne and one in Lagrasse!).

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was very French, you always felt as though you were in France even as you climbed in and out of bed. The roof terrace is in need of new furniture and will then be more reflective of the picture. Having said that the terrace makes the prperty into something special we spent most of our time when at home out there. The summer kitchem makes this a real possibility. The stairs in the property are narrow and steep, be aware of that before booking, we did not find them a problem but some may. I would heartily recommend this property for a quiet, romantic, french holiday.

Summary: This house is absolutely lovely. It is very well-appointed with two kitchens being individually equipped with all you need to fix all of your meals. The upstairs kitchen, which we used most, would have benefited from having a microwave. The middle (bedroom floor) had three comfortable bedrooms with screened windows and fans. We were very comfortable but did leave before the hottest weather hit in July. The WC room and shower room on the middle floor are very tiny. This did not bother us, but it should be noted. We did not use the shower on the ground floor, but it was larger. The entire house was clean and conformed completely to the listing. I cannot say enough good things about the terrace. We practically lived out there. The furniture was very comfortable and shaded. The dining table on the terrace was our dinner table each evening. There was a lovely breeze most of the day. If you rent during school days, please note that there is a school diagonally across the street which makes the small road congested during drop off and pick up. Otherwise, there is almost no traffic. Nancy, who cares for the place for the owners, goes above and beyond for anyone who rents. She arranged a wine tasting and invited us to two celebrations in her small nearby village. You could not be in better hands. In town, there is a boulangerie within walking distance as well as a grocery store and pizza place. There was also a pizza van in the square where we picked up delicious pizzas to eat on the terrace. I believe there was a crepe van on other evenings. Not to be missed are the other small towns nearby: Homps for a ride on the Canal du Midi and some nice restaurants, Olonzac for its wonderful market on Tuesdays, Lac du Juarres for swimming, and if course Tourouzelle for Festiano wines and a wonderful wine tasting with Patrick. Also nearby, are Carcassonne, Fontfroide Abbey, ( neither to be missed), Beziers for the step locks, and the beaches just past Narbonne. If you are a beach person, I recommend Gruissan Plage. Parking is free and plentiful, the beach is beautiful, there are places to eat in town and along the beach, and it is a thoroughly pleasant day. The only downside for those who want a lively town is that La Redorte is a very quiet town. If you are looking for a lot of cafes and restaurants, you will need to drive to find them. If you want a haven to come home to after a day of sightseeing, this is a place to consider. Also, there is no TV reception.

Summary: We spent two very enjoyable weeks at "Maison le Bon Vivant" this summer. We are a family of four with two boys (10 and 12 years). The house is perfect as a hub for exploring the region (e.g. hiking, shopping, swimming, wine touring just to mention some of the possibilities). The two kitchens in the house with all thinkable facilities makes it extremely practical for a family vacation. The house was very clean and the owner and caretaker also vey helpful. We can warmly recommend this house. Lene and Jakob, Christian and Kasper

Summary: Property was just as described - clean and well appointed. The owner responded quickly to all email enquiries and his local representative was punctual and courteous. The village is quiet and proved a good base for exploring the region. It has just two restaurants - a pizzeria and a restauarant by the Canal du Midi which is just a short stroll away. Nearby villages provide a wider choice and activities such as bicycle hire and boat trips are readily available. I would certainly recommend this property to friends.
