Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Maison de 1853 is a grand old house full of an equally grand old atmosphere. From the B&B it's an easy, pleasant 5-minute walk to the main area of shops and restaurants by the river near the center of Verdun. The B&B's host/owner, Roman, is a super-nice, helpful guy who made us feel very welcome, plus he provided lots of useful info about the town and the battlefields of Verdun. Our room was plenty spacious - probably the largest room we had during our two weeks in France - with a very soft bed. Breakfast was superb! There is also a beautiful garden which, had the weather been better, we would have enjoyed sitting in.

Negative: These are NOT criticisms, just points of information. 1. Parking is not right at the hotel - we found a free parking spot about 40 meters from the hotel - not sure if we were just lucky or if there's always space there. 2. Our toilet was separate from our room, about 20 feet down a corridor, while our shower had been installed kind of in the middle of our room, so that looked a bit out of place compared with the style of the building but, again, not a problem. That kind of thing is European 'character' rather than the bland, Joe-style rooms you find all over North America.
