Beautiful private Maison with large garden situated just 5 minutes walking distance from the stunning village of Saint-Jean-de-Cole, an 11th century medieval village which has been classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France (les plus beaux villages de France). The village amenities include various cafés, bars, restaurants, wine merchants, waffle shop, hairdressers, local shop, pharmacy, 17 kilometer ‘voie verte’ (greenway) and tennis court. We are also 20 minutes from a beautiful lake with beach and bar.
Located 8km south of bustling market town of Thiviers, which is the capital of foie gras and has a popular Saturday market and an excellent range of local shops and supermarkets. Rail links to Perigeux (25 mins), Limoges (50 Mins) and Paris. Convenient airports at Limoges and Bergerac and Bordeaux.
The beautiful town of Brantome which is situated on the bank of the Dronne river can be reached by car within x20 minutes. Brantome is known locally as the Venice of Perigord as the river Dronne surrounds the village and flows in front of the 8th century Benedictine abbey.
Donna and Steve would like to welcome you to our beautiful Maison close to the river Cole, which is accessed by a private driveway and surrounded by a large mature garden.
Ground Floor: Accessed directly via the main patio area, provides a modern kitchen diner with conventional oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, woodburner - seats 6 comfortably.
Downstairs toilet.
Garage (lockable) – providing good space for x1 car, sink, full size table tennis table and all equipment, football net and footballs, tennis rackets and tennis balls.
1st Floor: Good size lounge with balcony, x2 sofa's, satellite tv (English & French Channels), dvd player, electric heater, range of dvds, books and toys to keep you occupied.
Large master bedroom with double bed, ensuite, wardrobe, mirror, electrical heater, USB chargers and electrical sockets.
Large second bedroom with French antique double bed and large wardrobe, mirror, electrical heater USB chargers and electrical sockets.
Twin bedroom with x2 single beds, baby cot, wardrobes, mirror, sink, electrical heater, USB chargers and electrical sockets.
A splendid outdoor dining space which is accessed via the double wooden glazed doors from the kitchen that lead onto a good-sized patio area, includes a bbq.
Entertainment
Cycle hire and velorail available locally. Local lakes with beaches and restaurants within 20 minutes drive. There are a range of great restaurants both locally and a short drive from the area.
Private off road parking available and a car is essential for your stay.
Activities at the nearby beach (supervised swimming July - August) and areas include canoeing, tennis, fishing and range of marked walkways. Experience the beautiful Les Floralies (flower festival) that takes place in the heart of Saint Jean de Cole during the first weekend in May.
Cycle the stunning Voie Verte from Saint Jean de Cole to Thiviers and St Pardoux la Riviere a traffic-free by-way (Bike hire available locally).
We are located centrally for visits to the chateaux at Hautefort, Puyguilham, Villars, Jumilhac, Thiviers and Brantome - all within 15 - 40 minutes drive.
Canoing at Brantome and Lisle close by.
There is a fabulous lake at Nantheuil - with a beach and water sports, plus small restaurant 20 minutes drive, and within 40 minutes drive is the stunning lake at Ruffiac, where you will find enchanting walks, wake boarding and canoeing, rock climbing and acrobranche (High wires) - a good restaurant also overlooks the lake - perfect for a spot of lunch.
There are numerous market days locally, and information will be provided.
Please note that the local taxe de sejour is payable for all holiday accommodation in france to the French government, the charge is €1.10 per person per night and is due on arrival and payable locally to the commune.

Summary: Comfortable and well equipped house with large garden and driveway, a short walk to Saint Jean de Cole. The house has good Wi-Fi, UK tv channels and modern appliances. The village is charming with a local shop, pharmacy and 4 restaurants. Supermarkets are 10 minutes drive away. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Summary: For the second year we spent our vacation at Steve and Donna's vacation home. The comfort and location of the house has made that we have booked the house 2 times already. Outside, the garden gives plenty of opportunities to relax in the sun or shaded by the trees. From the house you can explore/discover the Périgord Vert by car, bike or on foot. We also experienced the contact with the owner as very pleasant and he keeps the appointments made. We will certainly come back again.

Summary: Lots of good things about this property: location for easy drives to many visitor sites; fuel, supermarkets and Saturday market close by at Thivers.
