A short walk away is a separate 2 story cottage with game room, kitchenette, and bunk room, creating the perfect separation of space for kids and adults or for separate families. Both structures are included in this listing.
Newly renovated with all new furnishings, bedding and linens, and kitchenware. Shimmering River Retreat is perfect for 2-3 families (4 queen beds and 6 twin beds); whether it be extended family for a reunion or friends looking to spend time together. Adults and children will both enjoy everything the home has to offer.
Come relax at this well appointed riverfront home on historic Westport Island. Spacious home with 200' of river frontage with floating deep water dock makes the perfect getaway. Private and secluded location with ample grounds for relaxation and exploration. The home comes with a fully equipped kitchen, game/theater room, huge deck and pool to enhance your vacation getaway. Home is located on the tidal Sheepscot River, providing excellent paddling and boating experiences. Minutes from historic Wiscassett, Bath, Boothbay Harbor, and Maine beaches and trails, as well as other local attractions makes this home a prime location for you vacation getaway.
The main living area has a cathedral ceiling and large dining table with open kitchen, perfect for your family or friend gatherings. There are four bedrooms in the main house, 2 full baths, and a half bath with full laundry room. Amenities include linens and towels, washer/dryer, gas grill, Smart TV's, and wireless internet.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for your vacation feasts, electric glass cooktop oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, electric griddle, toaster, Keurig coffee maker, and blender. Large pennisula provides ample prep space.
Large deck off the kitchen and a large gas grill provides amazing views of the river. Floating dock with swim ladder, boardwalk, and multiple kayaks and a canoe ensure you can have fun on the water. Dock can moor boats or jet skis and is equipped with shore power.
Game room/Theater is separated from the main house and includes a bunk room that sleeps 4, and a futon that could accommodate more. The separate cottage ensures that the night owls wanting to stay up late and play don't disturb the early to bed crowd. Large Smart HDTV as well as ping pong table round out this large space made to entertain. Kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, and plenty of space helps make this a perfect hang out spot for all. Cottage includes a full bath with shower to help accommodate all of your guests. After Oct 31 the cottage will be winterized and no water will be available. A kerosene monitor heater is available to heat the space when occupied.
Parking is available for six vehicles. Yard space is perfect for a game of catch, bocce, or kicking a ball around.
The property is montitored by external security cameras during periods of non occupancy. There is one camera facing and covering every entrance (total of 4) and are only in use when the house is unoccupied.

Summary: Our stay at Shimmering River Retreat was absolutely perfect! My husband and I were able to set up a wedding at the listing that was perfect and unforgettable. The hosts were so accommodating and great to work with to make sure we had the perfect day. The house itself is great! So many rooms to pick from and easy to house family and friends who stayed with us. The side house was also very well furnished and super cozy! The backyard was amazing (especially if you love nature views!) and had great amenities like a pool, a fire pit, and a dock with kayaks to use in the water. The hill for the backyard might be hard for some individuals to walk but you’ll definitely get your steps in if you enjoy that. The front yard also has plenty of space to set up outdoor games or just sit and enjoy nature. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here and I’m so happy with how my wedding turned out! Thank you!!

Summary: We have rented many properties for our yearly family vacation but this was by far our favorite! We've already rebooked for next year. The location, the size of the property, the pool, the outdoor areas... everything was amazing! The adults loved the deepwater dock, the kayaks and canoe. The little kids loved the pool. There were many places to go visit locally but we were able to come back to the peace and tranquility of the house. The guest cottage was a big hit for the grandkids!

Summary: These two clean and well stocked cabins were much enjoyed by ten adults and four children as our family gathered for a week's reunion. The cabins were clean and marvelously well equipped with large dishwasher and microwave, and ample plate ware and utensils. We enjoyed eating dinners on the large table on the deck. The mattresses were comfortable, and the pool and ping pong table utilized with enthusiasm. We used the kayaks and canoe each day, and even sat on the dock to watch fireworks on the 4th of July! Jessica was responsive and immediately helpful with a need we had. Lots to do in the area: We hiked Bonyun Preserve, walked the beaches at Reid State Park and the Popham Beach, explored historic Fort Popham, searched for the enormous wooden trolls in the Botanical gardens, picnicked in Boothbay Harbor, and played golf at the nearby courses. Everyone had an excellent experience and we all hope to come back!

Summary: Overall it was great - pools make all the difference with young kids! The communal space indoors was a little tight for adults, but the porch area was great. Seemed a little stingy to only supply 1TP roll per bathroom for the stay. The instruction book had vanished, and the info about the pool care was a little too much for non-owners of a pool. If there is an anticipated heat wave, bring fans with power. Really great location!

Summary: We had a girls long weekend and wish we could've stayed longer. Beautiful place! There were 9 of us and several were going to stay in the cottage, but it just seem cozy and warm so we all stayed in the house which worked out completely fine. The cottage was very clean and nice, i just think it would be better in the summer, we were there in the fall. We loved being by the water and took the kayaks out, and had a wonderful fire one nite. Loved the walk down to the water, but it is quite a steep and longer walk, so i wouldn't recommend it for anyone that has any walking physical disabilities. Wish we could've used the pool, maybe next time out.

Summary: Very nice place and location. Loved the separate cabin where the older kids were able to stay separate from the adults. Only issue was that the pool was not usable as it was dirty and green - late in the season but we still were hoping to be able to take a dip (especially the young kids)
