Positive: Spectacular view

Negative: The building fit in with the Mardin architecture and used the same type of stone. Unfortunately they used the same stone for the floor of the room ( fortunately not the bathroom, which was ceramic or porcelain tile). The stone is soft and not cleanable. Thus it was disgustingly filthy. Little foam slippers were hassle. Otherwise the room was up-to-date. Room service was terrible. They would take away towels and we had to beg for new ones. I’ve had a lot of Turkish breakfasts, all good, but they managed to ruin that experience as well. Awful an a bit strange. The transfer back to the airport was a ripoff, almost 3 times a taxi. Skip the amazing view and find another hotel.

Summary: Disappointing experience for such a spectacular view.

Positive: We selected this hotel because of its location within the old city district and authentic construction. It has exceeded our expectations. The hotel was recently remodeled staying true to its original form, from a 400+ year old "konak". The views from the restaurant are amazing, in full view of the valley. The food was excellent. As per the owner, the breakfast items were sourced from local villages with home made jams, yogurt and "kaymak" to help local businesses/families and also to preserve the local culture. We also had a decent dinner at the hotel. The owners offered a free glass of wine with our dinner which was a nice touch. The hostess Sibel was extremely helpful, not only serving us but also providing information on local sites within walking or driving distance. The location was quite an experience, walking through the cobblestone streets and steps to wonder around and get to main street and main attractions in the old city. Good shopping options and local cafes within walking (after some hike up the hill). Everything we had hoped for and some more.

Negative: Not that we did not like it, but you should anticipate small spaces, lots of steps, tight bathroom/showers due to the original architecture of the house. The location is great, but expect to leave your car away and be ready to hike the steps of the hill to get around the location. It adds to the experience, but not for people who need accessibility and lack mobility.

Summary: Exceeded our expectations of authenticity, food and location. Very friendly staff.

Positive: I promise you, there is no chance you will find a better hotel in Mardin - this one is outstanding! The hospitality here is everything! Lovely people, beautiful, cozy and clean room, amazing view from the restaurant and delicious breakfasts… I can’t wait to be back - hopefully soon.

Positive: Mardin old town itself is a true gem and Maran House is one of those gems. Luckily we found this place, were beyond expectations. Peaceful and beautiful. Enjoy the sunset with a glass of Mardin Suryani wine. Wake up early and enjoy the sunrise over the Mesopotamia. Breakfast is heaven, anything they serve comes from a village and / or home made. The shampoo brand is my favorite - that’s a sweet detail. Rooms are super clean and nicely decorated.

Negative: Don’t come here if you can not tolerate walking steps up and down. Mardin old city is like a maze. (Yet, hotel is cleared signed.) Nearest car park is still a few dozen steps up and down.

Positive: Such a gorgeous hotel with stunning views, we were very happy we stayed here. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk to get to the main part of Old Town and we really appreciated the quietness of being a little bit away from town.
