Negative: The Marshlands Inn is an institution and you expect that some details are not up to today's standards. However, our room was in the Carriage house, which needed recurring air conditioning, which was very loud. The lamps did not function very well and we had to wait over one hour for breakfast. I ordered French Toast and got some kind of dry crumpets, nearly edible.

Positive: it was available at the last minute.
Negative: I remember staying there years ago -- perhaps 15. The gardens look lovely as does the entrance. But we can see that the building is tired. the decor in our bedroom was very outdated, though the bed was comfortable. we sometimes wonder about cleanliness but the bathroom looked clean and the towels were thick and good quality. there needs to be some work done on mould and caulking around the tub in the bathroom. finally, a lovely young man went to see about a take-away cup of coffee. When he came back, he said he could not find a lid. I was surprised that an inn as established as the Marshlands was not set up to provide take-away coffee or tea for guests given your well established kitchen/restaurant. All in all, it suited our needs, but I would be hard p;ressed to recommend it without knowing that other rooms were updated. thank you!

Positive: Historic, location, clean, parking, outdoor patio, garden, good price, pet friendly-which was appreciated.
Negative: Sound of footsteps from room above unbelievably loud, pipes squealed, sink clogged, sheets were old, badly wrinkled, room is filled with too much stuff. Property is quite grand, it doesn’t need all the dolls and trinkets - makes the room feel so crowded.
