Positive: We had the family room in the attic/second floor. It had its own sink and toilet. It included a delicious fresh cooked Japanese breakfast every morning. Only a ten minute walk to the castle.

Negative: There was a very bright exit sign in the room. The stairs in the room were steep so not for everyone.

Positive: This place was kind of quirky being made up of several old houses but the result was a wonderful old inn. The staff were young, friendly and very welcoming. We had a wonderful conversation with our hosts at breakfast. This will be one of our favorite memories of our stay in Japan.

Negative: Not a complaint about the property, but we neglected to reserve dinner ahead of time. If we were to go back I would like to eat dinner at Mitsubikiya.

Summary: This is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Matsumoto with friendly staff and great food.

Positive: The Milky Way was visible 12-3am so awesome. The dinner and breakfast was generous and good.

Negative: It’s not cheap, but it’s worth it though… I do wish they give 2 pillows per guest (instead of only 1) and the pillows were the bean type… which didn’t offer much support. A pillow menu or more pillows would have been much appreciated.

Summary: Lovely stargazing location and good service. Clean and with good onsen and good food!

Positive: We stayed in the family suite. It has a private toilet and shower. It also has a kitchen. There is a bedroom on the third floor and the main living area on the second floor has a tatami mat room, dining room, and bedroom. We are a family of 4 and were very comfortable. The shower room is on the first level and the stairs are steep. We loved staying here. We also recommend trying the dinner, which is kaiseki style. Breakfast was great too.

Negative: Nothing really.

Positive: Everything! Super clean and professional, while also being homely. Great amenities and helpful staff. Very comfortable rooms and bedding, beautiful architecture. There were other guests but we did not bump into anybody walking around, very peaceful.

Negative: Only problem would be if you cannot walk up stairs - but I think they have rooms on the bottom floor too so would probably be fine if you give notice.

Summary: Best place I stayed in Japan no question. The place itself is just a beautiful piece of history. The location was great,

Positive: Great location, the family room was comfortable and spacious. Walking distance to the castle and art museum, quiet area a lot of places to eat close by.

Negative: Everything was great the stairs can be challenging for some people
