Built in 2019, this secluded modern mountain home sits on a wooded hillside in the Lost River Valley of West Virginia.
The layout of the home consists of an open kitchen, dining room, living room on the main floor. An office, three large master suites and plenty of outside space make this home a spacious and luxurious option. It is perfect for both entertaining and individual privacy.
Lots of windows allow for abundant natural light. There is a gas, stone fireplace for the colder months. The grounds have been thoughtfully maintained and there is a fire table and adjacent gym for guests to use. The furnishings are upscale and comfortable through out.

Summary: I visited Lost River with my husband and two other couples. The property was very nice, providing 3 comparable master suites. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed a few meals in the home. I sincerely enjoyed the office area, as I did have some work to do while away. And the sound system that carries through the house was a wonderful treat. There is a little cafe just down the way from the property with a lovely deli counter and cute knickknacks. Upon check-in, VRBO had given us the wrong code for the lockbox, which made things more stressful than they needed to be. So make sure you check with the host to ensure the right number is given. Note that the home is in a pretty secluded area, so there are not many stores or restaurants nearby. I suggest bringing things to do (games/books) and groceries to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. Overall, we loved the home and would definitely stay there again!

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay at Carter House in July 2022. House/layout was exactly as described in the VRBO listing and was ideal for our group of 6 (3 adults, 3 kids) wanting a more laid-back relaxing vacation. While remote and quiet, activities (swimming, fishing, restaurants, etc) were within 20-30 minutes drive. The owner was extremely helpful in providing information before our visit and assisting with issues (a locked gym door) during our visit. The only drawback to our stay was the hot tub was not functional, even though it was repaired before our visit and it was the primary reason we picked this site over a couple others. Would definitely stay here again.

Summary: A truly lovely retreat! Morning yoga facing the mountains set the stage for a relaxing vacation, even though we brought the kids! The house was beautiful, super well thought out and such great spaces for everyone to socialize or have some individual quiet time. We really enjoyed the sound system throughout the house which gave it a spa/resort like feel! And of course we wound up leaving a bag behind and Maxwell came to the rescue and mailed it home to us! Fantastic experience!

Summary: We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful modern mountain home this past weekend. It was an excellent rental in the Lost River, WV area. The home is well-appointed, clean, and comfortable. The property manager took great care to make sure we were well taken care of during our stay. I highly recommend this rental to anyone looking to stay in Lost River.

Summary: We had a great stay!!! I would 100% recommended this house for everyone. The house is fully equipped (kitchen, bathroom , and office supplies) sitting area was perfect, beds were comfortable, office area was great for work, and the heating floor systems in all the bathrooms were amazing!! We got everything that we needed and more... The outside area was cool too, it had nice view of the mountains especially in the mornings. Also, we saw deers around the house which made our vacation more interesting. Great place for people who like hiking, all the hiking trails are very close!!!

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at Carter House. This beautiful home is packed full of amenities. The set-up, artwork, and finishes are truly top notch. The gym and exercise equipment were a wonderful bonus. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and basic spices. All three bedrooms have an adjoining bathroom with dual shower heads, heated floors, and direct access to outdoor areas. It would be perfect location for a couples getaway to allow plenty of space to gather, while still allowing privacy. I would highly recommend this home for a relaxing getaway. Note for those with allergies: although this home doesn't allow guests to bring pets, this is not a pet free home. It appears the owner has a dog, so we did find pet hair on the furniture and floors. Again, we highly recommend this home, but wanted to share for those with allergies.
