Positive: Negi Lodge is within easy reach (walking distance) of the city's railway station, although a long way from the city's main attractions (as is stated in the description); however, there are many places to eat and shop within five minutes; walk. The apartment was clean and spacious, with the first hot shower of my tour of India (although the heater has to be switched on about 20 minutes before use, which I was not told). The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. I required a taxi to take me to the bus stop (several miles across town) on my final morning at 3,30am and this was organised (the taxi driver was the owner's husband) and at a very reasonable cost,
Negative: I booked an apartment, but was given a (very large) bedroom - there was no sofa or seating of any kind. The window opened into the corridor and when anyone came home at night, the light shone through the thin curtains into the room. On my one full day here, I travelled to Shimla by train, which necessitated an early start and arriving back after midnight, whereupon I found the outer gate and front door bolted - it wasn't easy to open the bolts from the outside! After this, I had a problem with the padlock which secured the door to my room but there was nobody to assist (I did manage, after about half an hour,, to remove the key which had become jammed in the padlock, re-insert it and open the lock, but for a while I feared not being able to gain entry). The facilities state that there is a shared kitchen, but I did not see this - and I had to ask for a kettle on arrival, when the room was supposed to be supplied with this.
Summary: Not an apartment, but otherwise clean and comfortable.

Positive: Friendliness of host, food quality, service and excellent value for money. Very good for bikers. Plenty of parking and very secure property. Will stay again.
Negative: Access to the property on a bike is quite easy however on the car it can be little tricky. The area is close to railway station so can be little busy. ATM's are few around but due to not being used as much, as they used to I guess in past, finding cash can be challenging if you are running low.
Summary: Excellent value for money! great host.
