Beautifully built and designed by an architect and interior designer with a loving touch, Big Fox was extensively renovated from ground up in 2010. Attention to detail with many custom features guarantees a stay that is full of comfort and care.
Big Fox contains such amenities as tasteful and contemporary furniture with premium bedding and towels, brand new 50” flat screen TV in the living room, fully furnished kitchen with granite counters, original art and prints of seascape and New England scenes, brand new propane grill, outdoor seating and dining, fine woodworking and floors, washer and dryer. The grounds are nicely landscaped with irrigation.
This is a year-round home with thermostatically controlled heat, wireless internet, phone service, cable TV and all the amenities necessary for a wonderful Maine vacation. All of the rooms have beautiful ceiling fans, and the bathrooms contain ceiling vents and heat for added comfort.
Big Fox is ideally situated within easy walking distance of the Village with its bakeries, restaurants, antique shops, art galleries, grocery and boutiques. Equally nearby is the Waterfront with its public tennis courts and the Harbor’s ferries to outer islands. the Trail system of Acadia National Park and the Village’s private clubs round out the amenities within close proximity to this beautiful property.
Northeast Harbor is centrally located on the Island to over 50 miles of hiking and biking carriage paths of Acadia National Park with nearby hiking/biking parking lots and the Stanley Brook motor entrance. It also has the appeal of a quaint idyllic and thriving Village with its grand, historic summer cottage estates from the turn of the century.
Big Fox Details:
Designed as the primary home, this is a three bedroom and 2.5 bath shingled cottage. The main floor contains a living room, library and shared gas fireplace between the two rooms for added warmth on cool nights. The large eat-in kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials of a fine cooking area. A half bath, side boot and coat entry room, and main front hall with desk complete the first floor.
The second floor includes a king master bedroom with en suite bath and a glassed shower. The hall past a built-in daybed for reading or sleeping leads to a second queen bedroom, a third bedroom contains one twin, and a full bath with tub/shower in the hall. Big Fox sleeps 6.
The outdoor living space includes Adirondack style chairs on the front porch and a dining table for six on the stone terrace. There is off-street parking for 2-3 cars.

Summary: This house was perfect for a week's stay for our family of four. The interior is truly beautiful - from the tasteful and extensive local art on the walls to the great layout to the high-end finishes and obvious pride of ownership, we were very impressed. Many rental properties show signs of wear and tear - not so with Big Fox. The house is immaculate and obviously well kept. The exterior is beautifully landscaped, and the house is far enough from the street not to notice street noise. We often took advantage of the short walk to town (breakfast and lunch at 123 Main) and had fun visiting the harbor. Good jumping-off point for all the island has to offer. Highly recommended.

Summary: The house appears to be new or nearly so. Layout is fine for those who have no problem climbing steps. Nice lounge plus den on either side of a pass-through gas fireplace. Kitchen, laundry room and dining area is off to itself with a modern gas cooktop and large fridge with icemaker. Bedrooms are all up a set of somewhat steep stairs. Floors are beautiful hardwood. Furnishings are all very comfortable. While there is no view from the property, landscaping is attractive and well maintained. No garage but that was no factor for our stay as weather was still fine. Location is fantastic with an easy walk into the town of Northeast Harbor where there are a number of good casual restaurants. It is also an easy walk down to the harbor where a variety of boat cruises are offered. For really fine dining it is a lovely 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor.

Summary: Our family had a wonderful trip to Acadia staying at Big Fox. The location of the house is fantastic. The home is well-maintained and beautifully decorated as advertised. Our family of four and nanny were very comfortable there. We were particularly grateful for Cathy's well thought out recommendations that we put to good use. We would be lucky to return in the future.

Summary: Big Fox is a meticulously maintained, classic Maine cottage on the “quiet” side of Mount Desert Island. It’s proximity to Northeast Harbor Main Street, the Harbor Marina, the Asticou Inn and, of course, Acadia National Park, made it a perfect accommodation for our family. In addition, the Owner shared great insider recommendations that made our stay much more enjoyable. We will return to Big Fox and will likely return with a bigger group and book Little Fox as well.

Summary: I strongly agree with all the positive reviews. We stayed for a week with our two grade school boys. It is a beautiful house in every respect in an out -- architecturally well done, great landscaping, furnishing, art and appliances. It has a great porch and a separate flagstone patio with seating and a propane grill. It has a new and fresh feeling, and feels like a high end hotel. Location is great. You can walk to town or access a few trails directly behind the house. We had no issues whatsoever, and the owner was a pleasure to communicate with via email.

Summary: Beautiful home that has been completely renovated, including all new furnishings. Instead of feeling like we were intruding by staying in someone's home, it felt like we were staying in a high end hotel with three bedrooms that comfortably accommodated our family of five. Kitchen is fully equipped. New washer/dryer. Flat panel TV with all of the channels. Great patio with propane grill. Well maintained landscaping. The home is walking distance to Northeast Harbor's shopping, restaurants and marina. Acadia is minutes away by car and Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor are short drives. Nothing to gripe about. Isn't that what vacation is all about?

Summary: From the moment we arrived in the car crunching over the fresh gravel in front of Big Fox, to the hours spent relaxing over breakfast on the tree-shaded patio, sipping wine on the porch or gathering at the big white table in the kitchen for meals, this was a delightful place that helped create memories of a wonderful vacation. There was ample space for our family, including our three children from 17 to 22. Everything is top class, from the kitchen equipment to the bedding to the tasteful art. Northeast Harbor, apart from its own attraction as a busy yachting and fishing harbor with ferries to the Cranberry Islands, is the perfect location for touring Acadia. It's away from the crowds of Bar Harbor but close to park entrances, and it's a short drive to the "quiet side" of the island. A free bus about five minutes walk from the house gets you to Bar Harbor and round to some great trails. The owners were responsive, efficient and helpful, providing a hit-list of the island's amenities, best walking and biking trails and suggested restaurants and shops. Big Fox is a high end property with high end quality.
