Positive: The Novotel Hotel at Darling Harbour was fine for a short-stay. We chose this accommodation because it was close to the CBD and next to the Chinese Garden of Friendship, so the location was quite good. The adjacent carpark also was one of the more reasonably priced ones at $45/day. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast which had a good variety of savoury and sweet - they were also having a special for $20 per person if booked at the hotel. The restaurant grew their own micro-herbs inside which was quite inspring. The bed was quite comfy and the bathroom was clean and tidy. The curtains blocked out all light so we had a good sleep.
Negative: The Novotel has some areas for improvement. When we arrived and checked in, Reception offered to take our bags while we went to find the carpark. This was much appreciated, though when we went to our room our bags weren't there. After calling Reception, they advised that there was a miscommunication and we needed to collect them from reception. This was a bit disappointing as they knew our room number for delivery and the hotel wasn't busy. However, Reception then agreed to deliver the luggage but we missed them being in the bathroom. We then received a call saying they couldn't deliver and so asked if they could come again. We waited 20 minutes or so and then my partner went downstairs to collect our luggage himself. By which time, the luggage arrived. This experience left us underwhelmed by Novotel from the start. Other suggested areas for improvement include updating the pool with reclining chairs or a bit more indoor greenery. There was also corroded metal in the corner of the pool which looked concerning. The view from our bedroom was quite dreary with not much natural lighting and no outlook on the garden - just looking straight onto the street below. It was also quite compact and so felt a bit squishy but fine for a short stay.

Negative: Ordered room service, after an hour I called to see what was happening, told me they were busy. Waited another 20 mins and when it got to me it was stone cold!

Negative: Fridge didn’t work. Staff were overall nice but no compensation was given for the inconvenience. They just suggested I put my groceries in their fridge and call reception when I would like it. Defeats the purpose of the convenience in my hotel room.
