Positive: Well, where do I begin? From the moment I arrived at O Abrigo until the time I had to leave, the experience was truly overwhelming. I genuinely regretted booking the stay for just one day. Next time, I will definitely make sure to stay for at least a week to fully soak in the beauty of the house and its serene surroundings. I must say, the owner of the property, Eliath and his mother are incredibly kind and warm-hearted.
Negative: Tourists often stop by to take pictures.
Summary: Being there felt just like spending time in my Nani’s backyard comforting, peaceful,and full of love

Positive: Nice Home Stay , beautiful balcony in a central location . the rooms are big and occupied well with nice shared area that offer tea and coffee .
Negative: during our stay hot water in the shower was not available late evening and mornings which effect our stay . also the house owner live in the middle floor and she complain about us making noise , not recommended for families , but couples and singles can be fine .

Positive: O Abrigo is a property full of character with beautiful tiled floors and period furniture. The owner lives here too, occupying a private area in the house. There are a number of different rooms, garden rooms accessed from the street and the others accessed through the main house and it's network of staircases. If you have mobility issues chose the garden rooms. The good things... It's in a great location, right by the historic properties and close to bars and places to eat. Good security with a guard on site. Plenty of hot water and the aircon/ceiling fans were effective. Friendly gentleman to deal with (son of owner) very responsive.
Negative: The not so good things... No welcome on arrival at 7:45pm, just dealing with the security guy who had very little English Rooms smell really strongly of moth balls The property is 'period' some may consider it dated. No effort at all has been made to make the bedrooms feel homely and welcoming. Manage your expectations, quaint does not always mean comfy. The description said garden access but it's really just 2 meters deep path of tiled area of plants in pots separating you from street. The garden room I had was tatty. Socket hanging off the walk. Dirty paintwork, dirty light switches. Kitchen consists of a single ring burner, one frying pan, 3 random desert spoons, one fork two dinner plates, one side plate a plastic jug and two small cups and an electric kettle. All a mismatch and really, by spending a small amount, a nice set of kitchen equipment would make things feel better. Two skinny pillows on the double bed and just a sheet, no duvet or blankets. The mattress was comfortable enough. Two wooden hangers in the wardrobe. No drawers for clothes. Incessant dog barking right outside at 4am...just when you've slept long enough not to get back to sleep. Whilst I understand this is not within the control of the property, just be aware and bring earplugs. No toiletries provided despite there being shower gel and shampoo dispenser on wall. One small bar of soap in a paper wrapper...you know the kind ! No toilet paper provided! Thin, old, hard towel...again, just spend a little and update these things. No outdoor furniture. But then there is no real area to sit out other than the tiny patio. No safety deposit box in room. No tea/coffee/creamer. No cafe attached as described in the listing. No mention of whether I would like breakfast, it was never offered. In summary... Manage your expectations.

Positive: O’Abrigo is a beautiful heritage home right in the heart of Fontainhas. The location is excellent — perfect for exploring the colourful lanes, cafés, and heritage spots in the area. Eli, the host, was warm, helpful, and gave excellent recommendations for places to dine — and his suggestions were truly spot-on. Overall, the central location and helpful host are definite highlights, but do confirm breakfast and room choice before booking.
Negative: Breakfast mentioned in the booking wasn’t available, as the host informed on arrival. Although this was adjusted in the bill, eating out ended up costing much more. It’s best to check in advance if the attached café is operational, especially if breakfast is important to you. Also, the ground-floor room is right by the road, so it can get noisy during the day with tourists passing by and taking photos.
Summary: Centrally located beautiful home in Fontainhas!

Positive: The location. Doesn’t get better than this in the Latin Quarter. The massive, beautifully furnished rooms and bathroom. The gorgeous balcony. The fact that the host shared a list of local food and sightseeing recommendations with me.
Negative: Terrible WiFi. Not the best place to stay if you plan to work. The fact that the room was never cleaned even once during my stay. (I should add that the room was spotless when I checked in though - clean towels and bed linen) The breakfast served on the ground floor at a grotty and slightly dusty cafe, is highly avoidable. Better to avoid breakfast here and eat at the many phenomenal bakeries and cafés just a stones throw away. While I understand that O Abrigo is a homestay, the price charged was similar to a mid-range hotel. Regardless, I will iterate that the hosts were a kind, non-interfering mother and son.
Summary: Peaceful but not without its flaws.
