North Captiva Island is only accessible by ferry, private boat or private aircraft and has no cars, only electric golf carts & bicycles. Just 3 miles offshore, this private island paradise is as close to “Old Florida” as you can get. The island is approximately 4 miles long & 1/2 mile wide at its widest point and features just 300 homes, mostly concentrated on the northern half of the island. The southern half of the island is a nature preserve which you are free to explore by bicycle or foot. Inside the preserve are the elusive Florida bobcats plus abundant wildlife.
This island has been thoughtfully developed with the goal of living harmoniously with nature. This vision has been achieved, as wildlife & mankind peacefully coexist together in this tropical paradise. Gopher tortoises roam freely about the island, plentiful manatee & dolphin families frolic and meander along the shore & in the harbors. There are no venomous snakes on this island ! :-)
Birders paradise - bald eagles, pelicans, parakeets, cormorant, osprey, egret, heron, spoonbills plus over 100 species of migratory birds
Fisherman’s dream - tarpon, snook, redfish, grouper, snapper, sea trout, etc.

Summary: Wonderful vacation spot. House is in great location and comfortably housed everyone. Wasn’t aware one bedroom and bunk beds were in the basement, separate from upstairs. Not a huge deal, but our younger kids were somewhat solo down there. There were some things that weren’t working great: musty odor/dampness in the basement, 2 fridges never got cold during the week, 1 freezer didn’t freeze. But really it wasn’t a big deal. Management company was very responsive and helpful. And really the whole point of being on a place like north captiva is not to be inside! Would stay here again.

Summary: Property location was great super close to white sand gulf beaches. My family enjoyed our stay and we would book this property and location again w/o question. The property manager was responsive, friendly and helpful. The owners were informative, answered questions, and even responded to my texts promptly when I had concerns. The house has everything you could possibly need and then some. It bordered on being a bit cluttered, but they have a great blender, beach towels, chairs, fishing poles, gear, cornhole, a Peloton bike, and a ton of other things. You won't need to bring anything extra to have a good time. As far a the house itself goes it is a nice house, with endless wraparound decks, some screened in and some not, and a separate lower level from the main house. The main house was nice. It had nice appliances and finishing's, a nice living area, and solid outdoor areas. Both upstairs bedrooms had nice king beds that were comfortable. Towels, and bedding were of nice quality. The main bedroom was super comfy. The bed was way softer then I'm used to but I slept great. We found the inside main house to be fairly clean, not hotel clean by no means but pretty good. The outdoor decks and things could use some TLC. Some rotted wood should be repaired and it needs a power washing pretty bad. The outdoor cushions were gross. The hot tub never worked during our stay. The AC worked fine at first, but it froze up and stopped working on about the second or third day. I texted the owned and they responded right away getting maintenance out fast. They told us to leave it off for 2 hours and try it again which we did and it worked to a degree. As long as you don't set the AC below 74 it does ok but it isn't going to keep the house cold for sure. The lower apartment isn't of the same quality as the main house. Our kids slept there and they are tolerant so we we're ok but we wouldn't have wanted to sleep down there. It was very damp and musty. It did have a bunk bed, separate king, small kitchen area, and a small living area. The kids liked having their own place. We felt uncomfortable at first b/c you have to go outside to get to the lower level but the door locks and the island feels very safe so that ended up ok. Golf carts were fun, the safety harbor pool was nice. Overall we enjoyed our trip and would recommend Doc Holidays. I think they have a bit of room for improvement but nothing that would stop us from coming back.

Summary: Doc Holiday’s place was like staying at someone’s home with all of the comforts vs a typical rental that can feel cold and uninviting. Close to the beach, golf carts were great, location was ideal. We’d stay there again.

Summary: Doc Holiday House was beautiful! There was a little confusion coming in and figuring out our boat slip at Safety Harbor. After that though, our stay was great! We would definitely stay here again.
