Positive: This place is wonderful! Clean, beautiful, peaceful, and well-appointed. The vast majority of the inside space is common space featuring a big table with seating, a tatami room with a kneeling table, and a well-appointed kitchen. The sleeping rooms are quite small, but as the common areas are so inviting, this was not an issue. The bathrooms are designated by gender, which was appreciated, and each has a toilet room and a shower room. I imagine that your stay might vary based on the other guests present, but ours was perfect - it was quiet at night and we enjoyed meeting other travellers. Note that there are some free items (coffee, tea, etc) and some items for purchase (cold beverages, ramen, etc), which was a really nice consideration given that many guests are riding the Shiminami Kaido and there isn't a store nearby. The host was wonderful - I messaged her a few hours before we arrived asking her to help us make a dinner reservation, and it was ready for us when we arrived (and she had messaged us earlier to let us know!). We also opted to book the wakka wakka breakfast. I wasn't too keen given that it is a more 'american style' breakfast, but it was delicious and included not-to-be-missed orange juice. If we are in the area again, we will definitely make a point of staying here!

Negative: We liked everything! The only consideration is that it is a few (flat) kilometers from the restaurants & store - if you don't have energy for that, you might want to plan to cook for yourself.

Summary: A wonderful, peaceful oasis - the perfect stopover for the Shiminami Kaido.

Positive: From the moment I checked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the staff. The hostel was more like a home. Extremely clean and well kept with all the amenities you would hope. The beds were comfortable and rooms as well. There is no view of the ocean but you are only a few steps away, and I caught the sunset one morning. Instead you are in a small neighborhood which is quiet. It was the perfect stopping point along the shimanami kaido.

Negative: Nothing. A shared bathroom may be an inconvenience for some but it is separated bu gender which is nice. I would stay again!

Summary: A amazing stop along my journey!

Negative: The walls are thin since this is a traditional house. You might hear the other guests snoring, or just talking in the common area :)

Negative: Nothing , very easy to get to from Shinanami. Advise tourists to think of food early in afternoon as good places nearby often fully booked.

Positive: What a fantastic experience. Now that I've stayed, I can see why all the reviews are so positive. This guesthouse is PERFECTLY outfitted to provide a comfortable experience for travelers. It's visually stunning, and contains everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is no food in easy walking distance, but the local Family Mart is an easy bike ride - and the kitchen is *well* outfitted. There are even some snacks, instant ramen, and curry / rice available for purchase (honor system) if you are hungry. The service from the staff was also wonderful. I'll be sure to go out of my way to stay here again if I'm in the area. Like another review said: Book with your eyes closed!
