Positive: We stayed in a pod village, and it was an amazing experience. The village is located in an isolated area with just a few pods scattered around, giving it a peaceful and private atmosphere. One of the highlights was the deer group that would come close to the pods. We were able to feed them, which made the stay even more special and memorable.
Negative: When we checked into the hotel, the receptionist advised us to make a reservation for dog sledding. My 8-year-old son overheard this and became very excited, insisting that we go. The next day, we went to the dog sledding location. I asked about the duration of the sledding and was told it would take 20 minutes. However, I didn’t feel comfortable sending my son alone for that long, as I am against using animals for entertainment purposes. We were scheduled for 12:40 PM and were asked to arrive 10 minutes early in the freezing cold. The sledding itself started at 12:48 PM and ended at 12:53 PM—just 5 minutes in total. I felt this was a complete scam, especially since I paid $98 for the experience. The most troubling part, however, was the behavior of the person handling the dogs. As we were about to start, the sled guide was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He didn’t greet us or speak kindly, especially in front of my child. In a cold and harsh tone, he warned us that if anyone shouted at the dogs, they would be left in the woods (which was only 50 meters away) and would have to walk back on their own. I tried to lighten the mood by smiling and reassuring my son, but the guide continued to emphasize his warning in a threatening manner. After the sledding, he asked if we wanted to pet the dogs. My son, who was visibly scared by him, immediately said no. If the guide is so sensitive about his dogs, he shouldn’t be profiting from their physical labor. Additionally, I’ve noticed a recurring issue with customer service in North America. Often, before receiving any service, you’re met with hostility or threats from the very people who are supposed to assist you—despite the fact that you’re paying for their services. This seems to be a widespread problem wherever you go. Lastly, it was heartbreaking to see wolves kept in small enclosures, essentially turned into a zoo for the amusement of people staying in the nearby villas.
