4 Bedroom House in Old Cleeve, Watchet

Merry Oaks provides a comfortable relaxed home from which to enjoy the beauty of Exmoor National Park and the West Somerset Coast. The house easily accommodates 9 guests in four bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower, plus a family bathroom with an electric shower over a whirlpool bath. A sofa bed in the sitting room provides for an extra two people. Please note as with most put u ups, the bed is a small double. The large open plan kitchen diner with views of the Quantock and Brendon Hills opens onto a private south facing patio area with outdoor furniture and bbq. There is a pond by the patio, and an outdoor ping pong table in the back yard. Please note the pond is not fenced, and the ping pong table is a bit of fun but not of true competition standard! Behind the house is a secluded wood fired hot tub, which comfortably seats 6. Logs are provided and we are happy to light it before you arrive, as it takes around 4 hours to warm. The back yard and back garden are fenced providing a secure space for dogs. There is an open fire with logs provided in the sitting room for colder nights. There is a large smart TV with Netflix. An upstairs seating area has a dvd and video player with lots of children's classics, books for children, a lego box and a selection of jigsaws. There is an extensive collection of books and board games available.
Footpaths near the property provide access to lovely walks with views across the Bristol Channel to Wales or the local Washford River. Within a mile there is a choice of two local pubs, both serving good food, with nice outdoor areas in good weather. Washford Station on the West Somerset Steam Railway is close by as is Torre Cider Farm, and Tropiquaria. Visit medieval Dunster with it's National Trust castle nearby. For those wanting to explore further afield, Glastonbury, Bristol, the Roman city of Bath and Exeter are all reachable in a day as are Cheddar Gorge, Wooky Hole Caves, Forde Abbey Gardens and manor or the surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde in North Devon. Watersports are available on the nearby Wimbleball Lake, and fly fishing at Clatworthy Reservoir. The quiet rural location is ideal for spotting wildlife; deer, foxes, woodpeckers, owls and bats are freqently seen from the garden.

Summary: A lovely quiet cottage, plenty of room for everyone, even our sons dog who decided to go for a walk on her own but was very kindly brought back by Janes husband. If you have a baby or toddler then you might want to consider bringing stair gates, bed guards etc with you. The pub at the bottom of the lane The White Horse serves good food and amazing Sunday lunch but you will need to book.

Summary: Thank you for an amazing weekend in your beautiful house. The location is perfect, it’s quiet, has a great walk across the fields for the dogs with two nice pubs on the way. The house itself is really comfortable with loads to do, the hosts have made it really homely and it has everything you need. The beds are comfy and the whole place was very clean. The hot tub was great fun and easy to keep warm with the extra logs the hosts brought to us. We’d definitely stay again. Thank you!

Summary: We have a lovely stay at the end of August. The house is very comfortable and there was easily enough space for 8 of us and three dogs! The location is perfect for exploring the north Somerset coast and Exmoor, and having the hot tub to come home to each evening was an added bonus, and also the table tennis table, which we all enjoyed. Jane was very responsive if we had any queries and we were even able to check out late since no one else was coming that day. Would highly recommend for group holidays.

Summary: We came down for 3 days as part of a half term break with two kids, 2 and 4. The house is part of a Devonshire longhouse dating back over 400 years and is in an amazing part of the country. Wish we'd had longer to explore the trails across the coast and welcombe mouth beach. Will be back with kids when older Ulla is a great host and went out of her way to make us feel welcome, the property is really well stocked with extras like bathrobes and a cream tea in the fridge I wouldn't expect, and lots of info on local area and games for the kids. It is remote and down some proper rural green tunnel roads so just prepare for that and you'll be fine Great stay, sad to leave!
