Positive: The single-floored cottage is quite large (there's a strange room in the middle which is used for storage) with well-equipped kitchen. There is a sizeable garden and patio, which would have been great if we'd had nicer weather. (It was chilly when we arrived but quick phone call to Simon meant we could adjust the central heating easily). Parking was easy, right next to the front door. It feels very private and was quiet despite being quite near to a main road. We could easily walk to the canal for a bit of fresh air. Also very much enjoyed visits to Ghent and Brussels from here.
Negative: It was a nuisance having to bring our own sheets, duvet cover and towels (particularly since we don't have square pillow cases so had to bring pillows). The layout is strange - you have to go through the bathroom to get to the bedroom and the bath is very small. We squeezed in but it wouldn't suit anyone broader. There are hardly any pictures or mirrors so it looks quite stark and a bit dark (it's a period cottage with extension). The area is rather dull - Oudenaarde has interest but Flanders canal and roadside development is dire.
Summary: Convenient cottage for Oudenaarde and visits further afield in the area.

Positive: A slight panic on my behalf about contacting Simon to get access to the property. A terrace house which has been part restored in the middle of the village in the shadow of the church. Amazing an authentic tiled floors with a beautifully renovated lounge, dining, bathroom, bedroom & kitchen. Everything you could possibly need was supplied. Outside an amazing garden with shed, garden furniture & an open sided chilling barn. We felt like true Flandrians during our stay here whilst riding as many of the cobbled classic climbs we could. Bike shop across the road along with De Pedaleur an excellent value restaurant & bar.
Negative: Nothing.
Summary: The nearest you'll ever get to living like a true Flandrian, absolutely loved it.
