Positive: This accommodation was fantastic. Julie was an excellent host and Brendan cooked up a delicious breakfast. The house is beautiful in a picture postcard location with so many homely and personal touches. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts and we would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

Negative: There wasn't anything that we didn't like about the stay. The accommodation is very personal and homely and we loved that. Some people may prefer somewhere more impersonal but it felt like staying with friends.

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at the Picket Post House. We would love to return again.

Positive: Very scenic location by a canal, lovely stone house full of character, exquisitely decorated highlighting and respecting the age of the house, amazing furniture and absolutely beautiful details everywhere you look. Well kept meadow on the side, beautiful colourful geraniums inviting to sit on the wooden bench in front of the house to admire the stone bridge, the brook and enjoy the songs if the birds. Very serene and quiet countryside.

Summary: Excellent location, full of character and a lovely welcoming host.

Positive: The layout and view over the river from the bedroom, lovely big bathroom also, great location nr Auction eats.. amazing food Shops n pub 5 min walk away.

Positive: Beautiful old building with a lot of history, set in a gorgeous rural location. The house itself is really lovely, very nicely decorated and maintained. Breakfast was great.

Negative: I booked a ‘private bathroom’, but the toilet was down the hall, and the shower room was downstairs near the main entrance, through a utility room. As Booking.com doesn’t have a filter for ‘en suite’, I’ve always filtered my search by ‘private bathroom’ and never had an issue like before. I would not have booked this room if I’d known the bathroom was not attached to the room, and the owner argued that it was in fact private because nobody else would be using it during our stay. They clearly need to change the listing to ‘shared bathroom’ so other people aren’t disappointed in future. I believe the other room they offer is a true en suite, so if you want privacy, then confirm you can get that other room before booking here.

Positive: My room on the upper floor looked out on to the Lancaster Canal so I was able to watch a couple of deer on the bank opposite and have a narrowboat pass under the window! I had everything I needed with a bathroom along the corridor.

Negative: Maybe a shower in the bathroom would improve the facilities rather the very large bath. However, a shower is available for guests to use on the ground floor and if I had stayed longer I might have used it.

Summary: A very enjoyable two night stay in the double room with private bathroom.
