Positive: My wife and I traveled here with our dog (50kilos). The Positives: The owners are Very accommodating and friendly and respond fast to any issue. They also have a property caretaker who lives next door and is available if anything needs attention. The house is an old farmhouse that has been modernized. We did not go upstairs (the 2nd floor is only accessible by a pull-down style attic ladder). The downstairs consists of 2 comfortable bedrooms, a well-appointed bathroom, living room with sofa, chair, big screen TV, Wi-Fi, and a nice, kitchen that includes a coffee/expresso machine. It does not have a microwave. There are windows on 3 sides allowing good ventilation. There is also a fully equipped outside kitchen (under a 3-sided structure) that includes a full kitchen with grill, sink, TV, and dining table with seating for 6. The property is very nice and the farm setting allows for relaxation. In addition, the yard is huge, 200+ meters up the mountain and about 40 meters wide. If you enter the exact name and address in Google Maps, it will take you right to the house, so it was easy to find. The property is located at the base of a mountain and is very much a part of the natural surroundings. It is close enough to several castles and monasteries to visit them. There are neighbors on each side of the property. One side is the caretaker, who also will supply breakfast if you choose that option. She is a sweet lady and put effort into making your stay more comfortable. The other side is a small working farm with horses, sheep, turkeys, ducks, geese, and two 35kilo dogs who are watch dogs and are aggressive. There is a small grocery about 1.5km from the house and larger grocery, gas station, pharmacies, shopping, etc. in a small town about 6km away. Be sure to ask the owners about locking the front door. I was not smart enough to figure this out on my own. But, no one bothered anything while we were gone from the house.
Negative: The Negatives: The only negative is the fence…it is not contiguous or sealed. The turkeys and ducks from next door will often wander into the yard to eat. It is actually quite pleasant. Also, there is a small, very sweet dog from the caretaker’s property that often visited. Unfortunately, the gaps in the fence allow the farmer neighbor’s larger watch dogs access to the yard. It is fortunate I saw their dog before taking mine out or there could have been a bloody (actual blood) problem. When I went out and said “hello puppy”, she growled at me. Had my dog been outside, this would have been an instant fight. I could not let my dog off the leash for a single moment during the visit. I would also be wary if I had children in the yard. We did not check the entire fence, but near the house, the fence is broken in at least 3 places, 1 on each side and 1 in front where the dirt was washed out from under the fence by a rainstorm opening a 50cm hole under the fence. There are possible fence openings in the back of the property however we did not look. Also, the fence is very weak and flimsy in places near the house. I had to check the yard for the big dogs from next door before I could walk my dog and I had to keep my dog leashed the entire time. If the neighbor’s dog can get into the yard, then my dog could get into the neighbor’s yard. These circumstances made the stay VERY stressful. If the owners will walk the fence and seal any openings with stronger material, then we could enjoy a great stay in the future. I want to make this clear…The ONLY issue we had during the stay was the fence that caused stress in what should have been a relaxing visit. Otherwise, this could, and would, be a pleasant way to relax for a while and enjoy nature. If the fence was solid, this property would deserve a top rating of 10!!!
