Positive: The room itself is well-equipped. It has been cleaned but the cleanliness is not very throughout. Location is central and the best thing of this hotel. Noise insulation is sometimes a problem too.
Negative: CHAOTIC and INCOMPREHENSIBLE check-in procedures. We arrived slightly after midnight. The doors were locked. We rang the bell to try to hv the security guard to open the doors for us, but she did not (we later were told she did not have the authority to). Luckily a guest allowed us in. The guard told us we had to use the ipad at the lobby to check in. The ipad check in process could not work completely cos its camera could not auto-capture data from a passport. Then a lady’s voice appeared through the ring camera to help with it manually. The lady then asked to provide the room number and code by saying them out loud through the ring camera speaker and having us jot them down manually. Did not expect that in 2025 at all. I asked for an email and got the room number and code. Took our luggage all the way to the room and the code did not work. Went back to the lobby and lady provided another code. Did not work. Lady finally succumbed and gave us another room. This time it worked. So 3 ROUND TRIPS between the lobby and a room because their code system is ineffective. This took 40 minutes at least, could be longer. At one point I asked why no instructions were sent via booking.com so that we knew in advance we had to check in through a ring camera. The lady said thats because they dont have our email. If the hotel is using agent websites then the hotel should be communicating with guests on the agent websites (as all other hotels would).

Positive: Great, tasteful design and location. There is a kitchenette and washer and dryer. The staff is very friendly.
Negative: The windows were not clean on the inside. The laminate flooring is not completely glued to the floor.

Positive: Terrific location. Magnificent building — one of the top beaux arts buildings in DuPont Circle. Entire second floor of main building given over to common spaces — nice combo of pre-war grandeur and modern decoration. Renovation created a room that’s very bright and clean. Ceilings were high. All the appliances were very good condition & we had no hesitation using them
Negative: What was not kept up well: hairdryer broken, bannister knob broken in room (leaving an exposed spike), many dings / scratches on door and on stairs (-1pt) Some of the value-engineering of the original renovations: rickety old elevator <key point>, quality of plywood in room, and the “servants’ stairs” feeling of stairs to 3rd floor. (-1pt)
