Positive: It was cosy & the beds were comfy.
Negative: The shower! Impossible to move in it as the shower curtain clung to you no matter what you did & it almost impossible not to let water over the side. There isn’t room for a shower over a slipper bath. Bet it isn’t long before the kitchen ceiling collapses with water damage 😱
Summary: Cosy & special but too far from M5!

Positive: Plum Cottage was clean, carefully furnished, and on a quiet side street. The owners were pleasant and responsive.
Negative: The kitchen is very small and it was difficult for all 3 of us to sit around the table. There were few condiments, spices, etc in the kitchen which many places do provide, but there are number of local stores. The stairs really are very steep and the doorways low. The shower was difficult to operate without water splashing all over, but the bathtub was very comfortable. We thought it was a nice place, but perhaps a bit overpriced.
Summary: Nice place, but not for everyone.

Positive: Plum cottage is a lovely period cottage in a fantastic quiet location in the centre of Castle Cary. Access was easy and all information very helpful. The cottage has been very nicely decorated in keeping with its cottage style and age and is very clean and well maintained. The courtyard garden is pretty and a lovely sun trap, where we enjoyed sitting at any time of day. Communication with the owner was pleasant and a very prompt response.
Negative: We found the pillows a little hard and the shower over the claw foot bath rather difficult to use. Also we needed to supply our own soap/hand wash for the bathroom.
Summary: We had a very pleasant stay in this charming cottage.

Positive: The cottage is very quaint and particularly loved the lounge - contemporary and welcoming. The location is fantastic in terms of access to main high street and also the field and playpark for little ones. Although there isn't on street parking but the check in information provided prior was perfect to make sure we knew what to expect and where to park. The main bedroom also has a super large bed which was extremely comfortable. The terrace garden and summer house looked perfect but due to us visiting during a -5C cold snap we didn't brave the icy steps up! If not for the stairs (due to a small child) we would have certainly booked again when regularly visiting family who live in Castle Cary.
Negative: If I had a suggestion it would be that there isn't enough information in welcome pack - Lots about Castle Cary but not much about the actual cottage. For example one would expect basic information such as wifi log in, heating information (seems obvious to twist the dial when you know but for us would have appreciated this being spelt out on arrival during a cold snap with a small child as it had a locked symbol on dial), recycling information (goes against my heart to just have to put everything into a black bin), fireplace (there is a controller on top but you have to open grate to find on on/off switch) and also since I had specified we were visiting with a 2 year old and asked for high chair etc I hadn't considered that a cot won't fit in second bedroom so he ended up in our room). Also despite my husband being relatively tech savvy we couldn't get the DVD player to work - probably tired parents to a young son but again to make life as easy as possible would suggest over-providing information rather than under particularly for benefit of short-stay guests. Stairgates provided on ground floor but there wasn't one at the top of the stairs making this cottage unusable for us in that "in-between" stage of a toddler being in a cot / normal single bed but not being able to handle stairs. The stairs in the property are Amsterdam-esque steep so without a stairgate at the top this isn't really child friendly location. Owners were very clear the cottage has steep stairs so no fault there, just an observation for anyone with small children. Kitchen could probably do with a bit of a sort out. Random mismatched glasses, cutlery etc, not many tea spoons - all small things kitchen wise but a bit of an update and sort out would make it feel a lot smarter. Perhaps too much to ask but perhaps small adds like a coffee machine for short term stays would be nice.
Summary: Perfect location and full of cottage charm - not for small children that can't handle steep stairs

Positive: Plum cottage was such a lovely place in a great spot, quiet but near to everything in the town. It was spotlessly clean and the garden was very pretty and buzzing with life as intended. We would stay here again.
Negative: There were a few small details which if sorted would have made this a 5* stay but nothing deal-breaking! Happy to provide feedback direct to owner.
