Positive: Everything! We were so pleased we decided to stay in San Miguel. You access the property in San Miguel by boat. This was in-fact a great experience and the boats run constantly from 5am-11pm so it’s totally doable. Lesbia the host helped us plan our trips and did everything to ensure we were comfortable. We loved sitting on the balcony and watching sunrise/sunset and all the fantastic wildlife.

Summary: The perfect home stay in San Miguel. Very good value for money!

Positive: My stay at Posada Don Julio was great! The location right on the water is magic. I loved sitting on the deck and just watching the birds. The room is huge and the beds were comfy and the kitchen has everything you need. Lesbia and Julio are lovely and will help you book your TIkal/Yaxha tours if you want. San Miguel is a chill town with a few restaurants and beautiful sunrises.

Negative: There is an apartment above and you can hear EVERYTHING. So depending on who your neighbors are it can be annoying. The WIFI when I was there was pretty much non existent. Julio said he was getting it fixed. Just something you might want to check if you are working remote.

Summary: Just sit on the deck and smile!

Positive: This place is amazing! The patio directly on the water is spectacular, we spent much of our time sitting out there enjoying the view and spotting iguanas. The beds were very comfortable and the outdoor kitchen had everything we needed to make meals. The family really made our experience special. They are such kind people and super helpful. 10/10 recommend.

Positive: Probably one of the cheapest accommodations on Flores. It's not located on the main island or in Santa Teresa, but on the other side of the lake, in San Miguel. So you have to take a boat, which costs 10 Quetzales. The rooms are basic, but the balcony with a view of Flores was more than adequate. Clean and tidy room, comfortable bed, and fans to help you cope with the heat. The bathroom is en-suite and has the typical Central American smell due to the small toilet pipes. You can swim in the lake, but if you want to swim near the hotel/posada, you should ask the owner if it's okay, as caimans can be found there. Not far from the accommodation, there are several mini-markets and very inexpensive restaurants (compared to Flores). The hostel also provides free drinking water and a refrigerator.

Negative: Everything was ok, except the "smell" of the toilet, but it's normal there

Summary: Affordable accommodation with a beautiful view of the lake

Positive: The family running the place were lovely and the views were beautiful

Negative: Everyone in the reviews said it would be quiet but we had non-stop noise while we were there and couldn’t get much sleep. We deliberately stayed outside of Flores to have some quiet nights but there is bar next door and they play music all night. The windows also don’t close properly and the towels are extremely thin and were not changed during the 3 nights that we were there.

Positive: We had a great stay here as part of our trip to Flores - we really enjoyed staying off the main island as it was much quieter (and cheaper) and the very short boat ride across is beautiful. Lesbia was so helpful during our stay and booked our Tikal tour for us for a great price (compared to what I heard other people on our tour saying they had paid). The room was really spacious with a great bathroom and lovely terrace area to sit out over the lake. Would definitely recommend!

Positive: I love staying at Posada Don Julio Lesbia was so attentive and friendly The place is super quiet and peaceful Away from the Flores noise and the people in San Miguel were sweet :) I would absolutely stay here again when I visit Peten thank you so much for everything!

Negative: No hot shower but it was really hot so it didn't matter

Positive: Lesbia and Julio are very warm and welcoming hosts. They made me feel like at home, we had nice conversations and it was a great pleasure to stay with them for some days. My room was huge with a big balcony directly above the water - very cool! The location is not in the Flores Island but in San Miguel - so if you search for a calmer non touristic area that's your choice! From Flores it is easy to arrive with a small boat in about 5 mins. Also recommended to book the tour to Tikal etc. and transports with them, they offer for a good price. And it is helpful to know some Spanish as their English is limited (but Julio is learning!) 😊 muchas gracias 🥰
