Summary: This property is amazing if you like peace and quiet. There are trails throughout the property, a fishing pond continuously fed fresh stream water, beautiful night skies, and plenty of wildlife. The home is huge with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. We never ran out of hot water and the main fireplace was really nice. The kitchen was stocked with cooking and cleaning supplies. Also plentiful were towels, blankets, pillows, and sheets. As a result, our family of 19 was very comfortable. So, why 4 stars and not 5? Despite being a huge home, it is definitely in the downhill stage of its existence. It is not as if nothing is working, but without upkeep, repairs, or replacement, many of the beautiful features of the house are or can become useless. The jacuzzi tub did not work. The kitchen is falling apart. The sliding doors are difficult to open and close. The movie room is just another bedroom because the entertainment system does not work. The front door has a fence handle as the door handle. We also rented the guest house which is really nice but be aware that is it a 5-10 minute steep downhill walk from the main home. Finally, let’s talk about the driveway. We arrived on the 19th of December and the driveway was wet from an earlier storm. Other reviewers have discussed the driveway and the description does recommend a 4 x 4. No one in our group had a 4 x 4 and three of us have compact cars. All of us arrived safety at the house. But, once we arrived we chose not to drive down until it was time to go. The main concern we all had was not the steepness but the condition of the driveway. It is in bad condition and contains many ruts, large rocks, and uneven places. It is not a driveway for the flatlanders of the world. It is tough. When we left on the 26th, a good 4 inches of snow had fallen and we were honestly scared to drive down (ice and snow). We made it safe and sound. To summarize, you can make it up without a 4 x 4 but having such a vehicle will make it much easier. In order to compete with the other large homes found on these websites, I would recommend the owner repairing the home and driveway. The people who manage the home are really great people. They answered all of our questions and helped with all of our concerns. The day we left, they even came up to the home before we left to show us the driveway was safe. Overall, we had an amazing time and enjoyed the home. Would we return?...not the way the home and driveway are now.

Summary: The home was beautifully situated on top of a hill with a great panoramic view and had everything we could possibly need. Had plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing including fishing at the property's stocked lake. It was absolutely perfect for these times and Kim and Brian were a pleasure to deal with. We would recommend it to anyone but would caution city folks (like us) with two-wheel drive cars that the road up to the house is steep & rutted. Otherwise all good and a great vacation destination.

Summary: My family was recently fortunate enough to stay for about 10 days at Wilson Creek, a great mountain home conveniently located near Independence, VA. The house, which sits on a very private 200-acre property, is beautifully sited with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, especially from the big back terrace attached to the large living room and ample sized kitchen. We stayed with 13 guests and the house was able to fit us comfortably, with each room having a private bathroom and access to a porch or balcony. The house is very spacious with high ceilings and lots of tall windows to enjoy the amazing scenery. The house, which is about a mile off Saddle Creek Road along a gravel driveway that was a bit steep in parts, feels really private without feeling really remote and it was possible to get to conveniences like a grocery store or restaurants in Independence within about 20 minutes. Brian and Kim were great hosts. They met us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the house and were super quick to respond to any questions we had during our visit. Due to coronavirus, we opted to stay primarily on the property except for a tubing excursion down the New River which the owners recommended and a beautiful hike at Grayson Highlands which proved to be a highlight. Most of our time, though, we spent either enjoying swimming and fishing on the small lake right near the house (there was also an old-fashioned paddle boat which was a hit too) or using the ATVs to tour and explore the many trails that criss-cross the property. The lake had been recently stocked with trout, bream, and bass and we were able to catch and eat quite a few during the visit. The trails were also great for hiking too. We had daily wildlife sightings, including tons of deer and a few different families of black bears, including a mother bear and her three cubs. There is a small stream that runs through the property and another cute guest house which is tucked in as well that can be used if needed, although the house worked well for our large group. Mostly we just enjoyed being outdoors together, making s’mores around the firepit in the garden, having a quiet early morning coffee on the back deck, or grilling freshly caught fish on the barbecue to supplement a big family dinner. It was a perfect spot for a much needed break and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a family vacation house.
