Walk over the footbridge to your own private island on beautiful Lake St. Catherine in Wells/Poultney, VT.
The island offers multiple swimming areas with gravel / sand bottoms and free of weeds. There is a float to swim to, or the bay is the perfect place to relax on a tube. There are two kayaks to enjoy the lake with paddles and life preservers included. There is dock space for up to 4 boats. There are multiple patios to relax or dine with seating for plenty of friends. There is a hammock to nap in. There are mountain views to enjoy. The Island offers a relaxing atmosphere without neighbors or interruptions.
The main house consists of 4 bedrooms and 2.5 recently renovated baths. There is one bedroom with a king bed, two bedrooms each with a full bed, and a fourth bedroom with two twin beds.
The kitchen is stocked with all of the appliances and utensils you could need. There are two full-sized refrigerators, a propane stove/oven, a dishwasher, a k-cup coffee maker, a toaster, and a microwave. There is a large built-in propane gas grill just outside the front door.
Even though the Island is relatively remote, it comes with all of the amenities you could want including cable television and high-speed internet.
There is also a small sleeping cabin an open concept sleeping area with two twin beds. It is only steps away from the main house.
A wheelbarrow is provided to allow guests to bring items from the parking area across the footbridge to the house (approximately 150 yards).

Summary: The house is surrounded by water and has beautiful views from every room. There are several, thoughtfully placed seats and tables outside where you can sit, read or eat. Easy access to the water to swim or kayak. The lake is beautifully clear. The house is very spacious and confortable and the kitchen is reasonably well equipped. Jessica is super friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful week!

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on The Island . The house was clean and comfortable, and we loved the easy access to and from The island. We had a wonderful time and hope to return next summer. I will greatly miss enjoying morning coffee on the screened in veranda overlooking the lake. Lots of choices for restaurants in the surrounding areas, or the home is well equipped if you just want to stay home and enjoy.

Summary: The Island is a great place for large family vacations. The house was clean and well kept and provided plenty of room to sleep 6 adults and 2 kids. The large screened in porch was a awesome place to hang out and enjoy meals on the lake. The Island also provided plenty of places to hang out and enjoy some great views. The only draw back is not a lot of yard space for the kids to play. Overall a great experience and would recommend it.

Summary: If you are looking for a place where you can spend a relaxing family vacation, you have found it! My family's week on The Island was amazing. When you leave the large parking area and cross the footbridge, you know you are entering a nearly magical space with beautiful walkways, gardens, and many sitting areas scattered throughout the large property. There are wonderful outdoor gathering spaces for meals or to sit around the fire, as well as plenty of private space to read or relax in the hammock. The swimming area is great for young and old with easy entry to the water as well as a swimming raft. Children love to fish here as they are rewarded with plenty of catches! Two kayaks were provided and there was easy tie up for our boat. At night the Island is beautiful with lots of detail to outdoor lighting. The house is spacious and well equipped. The large screened porch was a favorite indoor space with a sitting area and a large table for meals. The living room is large and well furnished. Even though we enjoyed escaping from the real world, we did appreciate the wifi and got good service. Being with my grown children and their families is always special, but we all agreed that being together on The Island made our time together exceptional! I hope we are lucky enough to be able to return in the future.

Summary: Our family had a wonderful weeklong experience staying on the idyllic Island. We highly recommend it, particularly for families. When I was a boy our family and relatives stayed in a cabin nearby every August for over 20 years. So, we already loved Lake St. Catherine and knew about the uniqueness of the lovely, relaxing Island. As for the Island itself, the house is large and in excellent shape. The four bedrooms upstairs provided more than enough sleeping room for us. The living room is also large. Our favorite space inside was the screened-in porch which has a beautiful view of the lake and provides gentle breezes. There's a large dining room table in the same large porch which was great for our family dinners. We spent many evenings around the camp fire. Our other family stayed across the back bay, so the kids were kayaking back and forth every day. The Island is at the end of a peninsula and this shape gives the back bay a more protected, comforting area for swimming and kayaking for children versus just being on the open lake. One night we all drove to see a fun play at the Dorset Playhouse. We spent an afternoon in Manchester, which has good shopping. We ran out of time this trip, but we usually drive over to the Saratoga race track and have dinner at the Log Jam. There's some very good antiquing in the area, too. Jessica was a joy to work with. From start to finish we had a great, seamless experience. It's the most relaxed many of of us have been in ages and we'd love to return. My twelve year-old nice said the night before we left "I wish we could stay here forever!"

Summary: We are return renters and have always enjoyed the island house on Lake St Catherine. We love the quintessential slate lined path with the white footbridge that approaches the camp. It sets the mood for the relaxing vacation week to come. The island provides privacy with plenty of property to move around. The bay swimming area is perfect for small children since you don't get the larger waves, yet the screened in front porch in the house overlooks the main portion of the lake so you don't miss a thing. No matter the time of day there is always a sunny or a shady spot to enjoy and a light breeze. There is plenty of dock space so the boats are kept away from the swimming area providing lots of room for everyone to enjoy the beach. The house is large enough to move around in and even on rainy days when we are all inside it is not crowded. We normally play games on the front porch or snuggle in and watch a movie in the living room which has a large and deep couch that we can fit on with both of the kids and their blankets. We have been visited by geese, ducks, an otter, a muskrat, frogs, turtles, fish and a blue heron who likes to come by in the early morning or evening. There are also eagles and ospreys on the lake that dive down and grab fish making for a sensational show! We are so excited that Jessica and Greg have taken over the management of the island house. They have been responsive and courteous and have made some great updates to the bathrooms and flooring. We especially like the beautifully lit bridge and walk way. The house was very clean upon move in and the kitchen was stocked with the essentials. We definitely coming back.
