Summary: If you like “off the beaten track” and characterful you’ll like Quinta da Mata, Luis and his team made us feel like family.

Summary: we absolutely loved this Quinta. Run by Luis Barosso, whose family bought it thirty years ago. The setting is awesome and the hotel has great charm. It is substantially built but has not been over renovated. Unfortunately the cooked food falls well short of acceptable. The ingredients are from the estate but the belief that vegetables should be boiled for an hour or more is a mistake. The quality of the raw product is good. After all it is a perma-organic farm. The swimming pool is fabulous. We would definitely stay again.
