Positive: We stayed for 7 nights with my wives parents. We had a great stay and loved Raffles - by the end of the stay we were sad to leave and the staff seemed sad for us to leave too..! We felt like family. The building is beautiful. Very tastefully decorated with minimal but classic design. Loved the long corridors with the black and white floor tiling and the vibrant foliage. The lift was always a joy to use having been restored to its original form. Room was excellent (Landmark King Room with Pool view). Turndown service excellent. Beds really comfy. Lots of dining options in the evenings and we ate in the Cafe D'angkor and 1932. The latter (we had the 1930 tasting menu) being excellent and worthy of a place in the Michelin guide (when it comes to Cambodia), the former being good without being exceptional. In the evenings Raul plays the piano in the conservatory and he creates this lovely romantic feeling of a bygone era whilst you gently sip on your post dinner digestif. Morning spent at the temples and afternoons lazing by the pool where the pool bar staff Ly, Sok, Sophaek and Tuoen? were all very helpful and kind. Always on hand to move the umbrella or bring some drinks and snacks. Cocktails taken in the pool with plastic glasses as the sun sets or just sitting at the bar in the evening enjoying family time and being mesmerised by the lovely lighting. The location is great. Its an easy 1 mile walk into town along the river if you're feeling energetic or a 5 minute tuk tuk ride if you're not. We had the same tuk tuk driver (Mr Tola) for the whole trip who took us to the temples, Apopo and botanical gardens as well as trips into town and back. Lovely man and always punctual with fresh cold water on hand and a cold lemongrass soaked flannel to cool down!
Negative: These are minor things really. Breakfast is the usual buffet affair with the omelette and crepe station, hot and cold cuts, fruit etc. free champagne every morning too which is nice. However it was generally geared towards Western guests and lacked a little authenticity - it would have been nicer to see more authentic dishes as many of the top class hotels in SE Asia do. The other was that the hotel lacked a bit of atmosphere in the evenings - this was mainly because there were lots of tour groups who use this hotel (Scenic). A mix of mostly Americans, Australian and Europeans. No problems there at all but most evenings they were shipped off to various events outside the hotel so it had a bit of a "ghost town" feel to it and therefore lacked the atmosphere that a Grand Hotel of this level deserves. Equally breakfast (depending on what time you went down) was either deserted (if the tour group had left for the day) or was packed (if they hadn't!). Whilst the guests were all very lovely this "tour feel" was detrimental to the overall experience - but if that what the hotel needs to survive then so be it.... The final comment really was about the quality of the cocktails in the Elephant bar - now I was very excited to experience a top class cocktail bar such as the one here as we all enjoy our pre and post dinner drinks and whilst the staff were phenomenally helpful and pleasant I do not think they had been classically trained in mixology - they looked at me bewildered when I asked for a Boulvardier or a Sbagliato - drinks that all cocktail bar staff should know....maybe some specialist training here wouldn't go amiss particularly given the prices of the cocktails.....and the cocktails they did know how to make were proably just above average if I'm being honest.... There are 68 5 star hotels in Siem Reap - with Raffles being the most expensive - I hope it survives and would love to return.
Summary: Definitely recommend..!

Positive: A beautiful hotel with the service & facilities you would expect from Raffles. We loved the Elephant Bar cocktails & bar menu as it was more relaxed than formal dining. Nice area with plenty of restaurants & easy walk to pub street too.
