The space
This cottage was created by Vicki (the owner) for her Mother. Therefore, it’s filled with great love & good vibes. "She was a “Florida Girl” so there’s a unique fusion of beach & mountain themes. She called it her “Hut”. When I was young she took us to a little restaurant on Lake Worth called “The Hut” where we would eat french fries, drink milkshakes then go to a movie. She enjoyed the likes of these delights in what became her beloved Mountain Hut❣️I spent a lot of time picking out the finest accoutrements…in memory of my Mom who loved the best life had to offer. I’ve lived at the Hut for the last 3 years but I’m setting sail for new adventures with my new Granddaughter 👼🏻 The “Next Generation”. My wish is that all my Guests leave feeling like they’ve experienced the best life has to offer❣️" -Vicki
Other things to note
There’s no TV but there’s a new Kodak Luma 150 projector with built in speaker, tripod & a additional bluetooth speaker. It’s compatible with most devices. Please check online if you have further questions about it’s specs etc. It can be set up in both the living room & bedroom. The pull down shades can be used as a projector screen. The cabin does have high speed, fiber optic internet so streaming isn’t a problem. The hot water is on demand…however it’s really fast! Note that rural Nelson occasionally has storms that can temporarily disrupt internet connection & electricity. However, the water is on a generator so that will always be available in case of emergency. (The cottage does have a small septic tank though that uses electricity to empty, so using the toilets, sinks, & shower aren't possible during power outages.) There is a battery & usb charged lantern with phone charging capability provided. Also, during the winter months the private roads back to the cabin can become temporarily impassable in inclement weather. 4- wheel drive vehicles are recommended for severe weather, however, local crews work diligently to clear snow as quickly as possible. We do offer a flexible cancelation policy for those effected by unforeseen weather disturbances.
For longer stays, we require periodic cleaning and supply check-ins.
You're welcome to walk the New Land subdivision's roads, as the views are stunning, but these roads may be dusty at times. The main house, above the hill from the cottage, is off limits to guests. If you decide to venture into the forest it may be a bit wild, so we do suggest long pants, boots, & to be aware that one could run into a bear &/or snakes. Should you run into any human residents, please tell them you're a Guest of Vicki Wheaton. This is a tranquil & meditative community. There's also a giant quartz crystal from Brazil adjacent to the Monroe Institute but you should call them to let them know you're interested in visiting. They also have a thought provoking bookstore.

Summary: Rental was as expected. Property was eclectic, location very nice, tucked away. Very well stocked with everything. Daytime is quiet, neighbors dogs barking all night the first night was only downside. The next night the problem seemed to be fixed. One suggestion would be to purchase a full coffee maker so visitors can brew one pot for the morning instead of spending time with a one drip per cup thing. Would stay again.

Summary: This place was perfect. The hosts are friendly and easy to communicate with. The cabin has everything you need, from a fully stocked kitchen to cook and anything else you might need. Views were gorgeous, so many birds and wildlife and a very relaxing atmosphere. Location is nearby many hiking trails, wineries and farms so you would never be bored. Highly recommend.

Summary: Sorry for the delayed review. So many things to put back together (power outage at home the day before vacation ended, messing with electronics) and get caught up on after being away from home. Anyway, we loved the solitude; the pastoral atmosphere; morning visits by the deer; and the rest & rejuvenation afforded to us after day trips exploring. The cottage has everything and not a thing I/we would change. Big plus having ADA compliant commode and the wet room shower. Had such fun learning about and using the Kodak mini projector, especially reviewing photos and videos we took each day. All in all the cottage, location, and hosts are the whole package for a great getaway. Thumbs up, thanks Janelle.
