Positive: The hosts were extremely friendly and the place is clean and safe. It is a short walk to the local beach which has great waves for surfing. This is not a luxury resort, but it is a great value. The breakfasts are larger than expected with big bowls of fruit and large glasses of orange juice every morning.
Negative: My only complaint is that there wasn't shampoo in the shower. We had to buy some at the market.

Positive: Philip and Kamila were extremely kind. I got sick during my stay and they were so comforting. I really appreciate how nice they were and excited they were to tell us about the area.
Negative: The only tough thing was the pillows but maybe my North American big head is the issue hehe.
Summary: An isolated charming breakfast stay with the beach only a short walk away!

Positive: Very comfortable and big bed, great shower, delicious breakfast, very clean and exceptionally welcoming hosts. They have a lot of info on activities in the area and the local flora and fauna. But most of all they make you feel at home and safe. I would definitely come again to spend some relaxing days at Raya in Matapalo! The location is just perfect, everything in walking distance 7‘ to the beach, 5‘ to famous and awesome Matapalo Supper Club Restaurant, another restaurant and the supermarket. 20‘ to the bus stop. And on the other side of the road: Angelo who takes you on trips with his lovely horses.
Summary: Everything you would expect from an accommodation: relaxing atmosphere, super clean and delicious breakfast

Positive: Raya is a relatively new place run by its enthusiastic owners, who were very keen to try to ensure that you had a good stay. We were here for three nights and the other seven apartments were mostly occupied at the same time. The design of the building was unsual - one long single storey with dividers between each apartment which allowed for private patios for each. As well as a table and chairs, each apartment had a couple of unusual, comfortable, hanging hammock chairs, behind which was a pretty garden area. The bathroom, air conditioning and wifi all worked well and overall the bedrooms were very comfortable and quiet. A decent breakfast was provided for you each morning, right outside your apartment which was very convenient.
Negative: The operation is still bedding in, but I think it will only get better. There is an acknowledged need for more information on local attractions to be available. It is in a nice spot, about eight minutes walk from the beach and a resataurant, but you would need a car to get to any other places. Secure parking was available, but not easy - a rather narrow strip alongside the building which would be very difficult to manouevre if there was more than two or three cars.

Positive: Owners were great, very approachable gave advice on things to do and where to go and also a location to see sloths. Room is big and very clean, with comfortable bed and nice hot shower. Owner makes great breakfast especially nice big waffles, so bring a big jar of Nutella. There is a small outside seating area for each room where you can eat or sit and chill. Very close to a great restaurant and to a nice beach.
Negative: Wifi didn't work in the room, had to go in the seating area outside.

Positive: We loved the brand new hotel, closeness to the beach, price/value, breakfast and the hosts Philip and Kamila. Everything worked great. They recently opened the hotel. We look forward to going again. The beach is amazing as it is virgin. The hosts also gave us places to go nearby and helped us get situated in the surf with tides and peak locations.
Negative: Nothing really to comment here. The hosts even helped us with a car repair and pointed us around

Positive: I was impressed with the modern rooms and the personal space right outside the door. The owner cooks up a nice breakfast and plenty of coffee. Raya was an excellent value in all aspects.
