Positive: We came for a cozy getaway, and Red Stonecutters Cottage delivered in ways we didn’t even know we needed. Perched atop stunning Doonagore, this post-Famine gem is like stepping back in time—but with just enough modern comfort to make you never want to leave. Let’s start with the fire. Oh, the fire. Twice a day, we lit it up in the lounge, which is anchored by a perfectly restored wood-burning stove. Morning coffee and evening tea were elevated to sacred rituals, as the flames cast their warm, flickering light on the traditionally plastered walls. And those walls? They don’t just hold the heat—they practically sing with it. The shifting colours and shadows turned the whole cottage into a living artwork. The restoration itself deserves a standing ovation. The cottage dates back to just after the Famine, and every detail has been lovingly preserved or thoughtfully curated with period pieces. From the pine-countered kitchen to the snug double bedroom, it’s like the past brought its A-game to the present. Staying here feels less like a rental and more like being handed the keys to history. The location is a dream. From the hilltop, you’re spoiled with sweeping views of the Atlantic, the Aran Islands, and the Burren. It’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’ve found the edge of the world, yet you’re just a short drive to the lively music in Doolin pubs, the beach at Lahinch, or the picturesque harbour village of Liscannor. Rural peace with coastal energy just around the corner—it doesn’t get better than that. And then there’s the night sky. When the sun dips below the horizon, this place becomes a stargazer’s paradise. We saw so many stars that we briefly considered applying for an honorary degree in astronomy. No light pollution, just pure cosmic magic. In conclusion, Red Stonecutters Cottage has it all: history, charm, warmth (literal and figurative), and views that will leave you speechless.
Negative: One very small thing we’d suggest is more (subtle) lighting options in the sitting room and bedroom rather than just overhead lights. Small suggestion!
Summary: Beautiful!

Positive: This is the absolute CUTESTTTTT cottage!! It had a fireplace and so many cozy blankets and really cute old-fashioned decore. The place was super communicative and really well organized. We were so excited to be away from it all. The location is so close to the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin. The place was comfy and quiet.
Negative: It was a little far from a grocery store, I wish we had maybe a snack on arrival or something to just get us set up, the coffee and tea were a great touch!! We were able to check in early but originally the 4pm check-in and the 10am checkout were a bit much.
Summary: The sweetest little Irish countryside cottage

Positive: Nice location, although rather in the middle of nowhere. Cottage, apart from the comments below, very nice, clean and well equiped.
Negative: Email communications were poor. I was told in a email that the door would be unlocked and the key hanging inside. This was not the case, the door was locked. I phoned some of the numbers and none answered. As as last resort (and forturately I had signal) I logged into my booking.com account and was able could see an message from that afternoon advising of a code. Felt rather unnerving for a little while. Mould growth around some of the windows, would have been good if this had been cleaned.

Positive: The location was beautiful. The landscape on the horizon was amazing on sunny days. The management was SO proactive and easy to contact. A water pipe had burst earlier in the day, affecting the use of water. Several 5 Liter bottles were delivered to use as needed. We were also provided with an alternative location nearby to get running warm showers. Given the circumstances, the management was so responsive.
Negative: The only thing that could've made anything better was beyond the control of the management. We appreciated all of the efforts to make a difficult situation less stressful.
Summary: This was a lovely stay. I would highly recommend it.
