I travel a lot, so you will probably not meet me! (In fact, you’re staying in the house because I'm not)
Most of your communications, though, will be with my friend Emily, my local co-host. She’s close by if anything comes up!

This neighborhood of mill houses in East Durham was developed for the workers at the Golden Belt Manufacturing Plant at the turn of the 20th century. The Plant, one block away from the home, has been renovated into art studios, restaurants, offices and an event space.
The neighborhood is full of young families and homes being renovated. While this house is at the end of a quiet dead end street, it is adjacent to an active road. A fence is in the works, but has not yet been installed.
You are also a mile to the center of downtown Durham. Walk to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday, jog to the American Tobacco Trail, or take yourself on a progressive food tour through downtown and back! You will feel far from the bustle, but you can’t find a better location to relax between activities.

You’ll have the entire home and property to yourself, including plenty of free street parking for 2 cars.
The yard and porch will be phase 2 of the improvement. You are welcome to use them as they are now, there just isn’t much furniture!
NOTE: While we’re pet friendly, the yard is NOT fenced!

I’m delighted to share my home with you! I’ve renovated and decorated this original mill house to retain the original charm, highlight historic features and seamlessly incorporate modern amenities. I hope you’ll find it as cozy as I do! Bright bathrooms and unique furniture sourced from local reuse shops provide accents to the rich original wood floors, classic molding and high ceilings.
The kitchen and living room are open concept, structured around the original brick fireplace. Enjoy streaming your favorite shows or movies in the living room on the smart TV, or cooking a meal in the spacious kitchen.
Primary bedroom includes a private bathroom. Second bedroom has a desk for use as a private workspace.
Best of all - entertain your friends & family on the piano in the entry hall!

olden Belt is conveniently located to get around town, or to neighboring communities. You’ll be an easy bike/drive/Uber/Lyft distance to:

This is my home, which I’ve designed to be comfortable for me & for you! I appreciate you for exercising the same level of thought and care when staying here.

Summary: The property was excellent. Very quiet place w anything anyone would need. We were in Durham to help out daughter w her baby. Her apartment is tiny so we need a place. Easy 15 min drive. We didn’t do much more than sleep there. But the beds were very comfortable too.

Summary: We were in Durham for the Biscuits and Banjos festival and felt fortunate to find this place for the weekend. Comfortable, well appointed, and close to downtown it met all our needs. Emily was an attentive host who kept in touch and always seemed ready to answer questions or give guidance. Extra benefit we were able to bring our dog for the weekend and the modest pet fee was lower than we would have paid a pet sitter. Highly recommend for a couple or small close-knit group.

Summary: This little house didn't disappoint and was very cozy and convenient. The security measures were troubling to me given the current state of surveillance in our nation. If you are concerned about your safety or being targeted politically - know that facial recognition was used to "vet" me before confirming my stay. I wrote to the owner and asked that they reconsider this practice.

Summary: There are some many thoughtful touches in this impeccably set up home that it all adds up to a very special stay. One of my favorite places I have rented over the past 10 years. 7-12 minutes from all the Durham has to offer and plenty of places to walk a dog.

Summary: This is a cute little house in a residential area that is still in transition. The busy roadway on the main living area side of the home brings noise and an uncomfortable feeling with all the people who walk by the home. However, with the main bedroom on the other side of the house, the traffic noise wasn’t a problem. The house itself is old with the usual creaks, unevenness, and smells. The modern open floor plan of the living area, the presence of a washer and dryer as well as the upgraded kitchen appliances are positive aspects of the property. The communication with the property manager was good once we made direct contact with her. The use of a third party to clear us as guests was unexpected and intrusive in the information it was asking for although we understand the owner’s needs for verification. It just should be noted in the beginning how much information will be requested.
