Named a State Historic Landmark, the Belle Baldwin house may be the only known intact example of the residential work of Harlan Thomas, a renowned architect whose buildings are distinguished Seattle landmarks.
Vashon Park District’s ‘green’ restoration process has returned the house to its 1912 glory, creating a relaxing, natural environment that honors the park and the past. Located on 750 feet of pristine Puget Sound beach, it doesn't get any better than this.
The house is located in Vashon Park District’s Fern Cove Park. The park is open to the public during the day for walk-in, passive uses, such as beach walks and bird watching.
The home was fully refurbished in 2008 to provide vacation rentals to the public. It features a large living-dining room with the original paned windows facing the shore and Baldwin Creek. The three bedrooms (two queens/two twins), and one-bath house is comfortable for a group of six (there is also one roll-a-way available for a 7th person at an additional charge per night) and we provide all household items to ensure a comfortable stay. There is also a gas fireplace and nap-friendly leather couch.

Summary: I try to keep my expectations low for places I stay, but no need to for Belle Baldwin House. We were completely delighted with everything -- the house, the setting, all the thoughtfulness that went into furnishing the kitchen and bath. And a Christmas tree!!! I couldn't have imagined it any more beautiful or peaceful or perfect in every way.

Summary: My husband and I came for a weekend getaway to explore Vashon. We were absolutely delighted by everything about this house: the historic nature, the amazing location, the water view featuring birds, otters, and the changing weather. The cozy fireplace, comfy bed, and luxurious clawfoot tub took our stay to the next level. We loved it all!

Summary: It is always a delight to visit Fern Cove where we raised our family and began the appreciation of the area with Vashon Parks, Vashon Landtrust, King County and Washington legislature. Now it includes all of the Island Parks and the Singlemill Watershed.

Summary: The Belle Baldwin home on Fern Cove is a gem! We usually go to Pt Robinson and decided to try this home instead- I’m so glad we did! The home itself is beautifully restored and the view are incredible. We appreciated the boots for low tide exploring. The beach is sandy and nice for a picnic. Sunsets are gorgeous. And the bird watching is superb. Comfy beds and cozy chairs were perfect for relaxing. The fireplace makes a great spot to warm up after a chilly morning outside. Overall, we loved the home. Thanks for sharing it with us all!
