Positive: This apartment was absolutely charming. Walking through the cobblestone street to find a beautiful door to the entrance of the building was one of the highlights of our experience in the Rome. This apartment is located in a quieter area which was lovely as we didn’t want to be in the centre of all the hustle and bustle. With that being said, the Colosseum and Roman Forum were walking distance and other tourist attractions are a short drive or bus ride. The apartment itself gives you an authentic Roman experience with loads of character. The apartment has a beautiful rooftop terrace which was perfect to enjoy our morning coffee. We really appreciated the complimentary coffee and bottle of wine.

Negative: The floors downstairs were a bit dirty however slippers were provided which was appreciated. This may be due to the older style of flooring which gave the apartment character.

Summary: Charming Roman apartment close to the Colosseum.

Positive: Easy and quick access to top attractions, great restaurants within steps, and very quiet neighborhood. For being with in sight of Palatine hill this location is very quiet and non trodden. I think it's because the apartment is in a narrow back alley adjacent to the main arteries of traffic. The apartment is also easily landmarked with two large topiaries flanking the entrance. After entering it's a single flight of stairs up to a landing with a door to the left and the right. Like many apartments in Europe it's a little narrow and a little tricky if you are carrying luggage and the landing is small. I had to take two trips to bring up all of our belongings belongs because the space is too tight when your trying to get the door open. When you enter you'll find a spacious living room on the left and a kitchen and dining table to the right. Just adjacent to the kitchen is the bathroom that looks newly renovated including the fixtures. Very clean and modern. The bedroom is in a loft accessible via a spiral staircase. We used the extra space in the living room as a place for our luggage and makeshift dresser/wardrobe since getting everything up the sprial staircase wasn't practical for us. However, when you ascend you'll find that the loft is very cute with an ensuite bathroom as well. I was delighted by that because let's be honest...who wants to navigate a spiral staircase in the middle of the night! Also cute is the outdoor patio connected to the loft. Opening that door you find a small patio set and a gorgeous view of Palatine Hill from the back side. The apartments and connected properties had Orange trees and other spring blooms that literaly perfumed the air. I loved it out there. All I needed was a grill. :) Last but not least, this property has two AC units. One in the loft and one in the kitchen.

Negative: Hands down it's the odor coming from the shower drain. Now this warning appeared in other reviews and I was hopeful it would not be the case when I arrived but alas, the ghastly fell spectre remains. Because the apartment is otherwise an "A" for a variety of qualifying reasons, I'm here to offer solutions not just complaints. When you first walk into the bathroom space from either your first entrance or after a day of touring you will be assaulted by the pungent, septic, gas that can make a grown man swoon. However, opening the bathroom windows for just a minute or two clears the air quite effectively and rapidly. As long as the windows are open or ajar, we didn't really smell it. It also helps to run some fresh water down the drain but it's not as effective as the windows. My wife wasn't comfortable leaving the windows cracked while we were gone or asleep so I'd taken to shutting the windows and the bathroom door to contain the beast and fight on our terms. I was given assurances by the owner that steps are being taken to address this but given that the times this complaint has been reported I have a feeling it's a problem with the city that's hard to address. Beyond this putrid poltergeist the apartment is amazing but here are one or two ther considerations. The loft ceilings are low including the ensuite bathroom. I'm 5'10" and I have to duck a little on one side of the room. There is a beam in the ensuite that I have to stand in front or in back of to clear and the short hall to the patio is a ducking situation. If you are over 6' tall you might find this challenging. Lasty, the floors are not mopped between visits. In fairness, I find this to be the case in nearly 100% of all rentals. It's a problem for us because we prefer to be barefoot and our feet and socks can blacken in minutes BUT this owner provided slippers along with the towels which I ADORE!! That was a nice perk.
