Summary: We have greatly enjoyed our family holiday in Labruja near Ponte de Lima (family with three teenage daughters of 10, 12 and 16 years old). The house has been restored and renovated two years ago and shows a good mixture of traditional and modern building materials. It is very clean and comfortable and provided - because of its thick walls - a very pleasant cool atmosphere during hot summer days (we enjoyed 26-32 degrees and lovely sunshine during our entire holiday period. The garden offers lovely views over the surrounding terraced landscapes including vineyards, woodlands, moutain and small villages. Beautiful and very comfortable swimming pool in front of the house.with extremely clean and clear water: ideal for children and for refreshing on warm summer days. The owners of the house are very friendly, speak French and English, and live only three minutes from the house. They are very helpful when questioned by telephone. The village of Labruja is very quiet and traditional, with many steep and winding roads, bordered by stone walls. The first time it is not so easy to find your way to the house by car following the narrow and steep roads, but after some practising it is OK. The little town of Ponte de Lima, which is about 20 minutes drive from the house, is very charming, situated along the river Lima, with many restaurants, small shops and a large monday market every two weeks. A the edge of the villa there are two large supermarkets: Intermarche, which has a very large choice, but expensive and crowdy, as well as a Lidl supermarket who has a more limited assortement, but exremely expensive and quiet. In general, prices in Portugal in supermarkets, shops and restaurants are much lower than we are used to in The Netherland (and I think also with respect to many other European countries), which makes a holiday here very atrractive. From the house we made many interesting tours by car in the beautiful mountain landscapes around (for instance Serra da Peneda and Geres) and also to the beautiful historic cities of Porto, Braga, Barcelos and Viana do Castelo. Especially Porto and Braga provided excellent shopping possibilities for our three teenage girls. At Darque (about a half hour drive) there is a beautiful sandy ocean beach. The ocean water, however, is rather cold for a swim, All together we enjoyed a lovely family holiday here at the end of July and the beginning of August. We would recommend this house to family, friends and relatives,
